Swedish Floorball Finals (Men) – Storvreta IBK – IBF Falun 3-2 (0-0, 0-1, 3-1)

Of course, the men’s match at Avicii Arena was expected to be the floorball highlight of the 26th April 2025. With Storvreta IBK from Uppsala and IBF Falun, it also faced the battle of the two leaders after the regular season. Both had quite clear 4-1 victories in their semifinal series and thus had a couple of days off to relax and prepare for the big match in Stockholm.

Storvreta IBK – IBF Falun – Match Report

The story of the first period is rather quickly told. Both teams were very disciplined and concentrate on a strong defense. There were just selected attacks. Falun felt a bit superior in regards of ball possession, while Storvreta was slightly more agile in their attacks. However, there were overall not too many reasons to cheer and struggle for the two amazing fan sectors in Avicii Arena. There were some more promising situations on both sides quite before the intermission buzzer, so that the match stayed scoreless. The gross period time of 26 minutes tells already that Stockholm saw a very strategic match so far.

Emil Ruud starts Scoring

The match felt to go on in line with the first twenty minutes in the second period. Both teams very very solid in defense and went on with their strategies. However, IBF Falun got better in the last minutes of this part of the match and finally deserved the lead after forty minutes. Emil Ruud scored the first goal of the match. After Storvreta felt to have cleared a critcial situation right before, Filip Eriksson lost the ball against the Falun player who went for a precise shot. Storvreta pushed for the tie thereafter, which added a lot of speed and thrill to the match, but finally Falun cruised into the second intermission.

Storvreta takes the Momentum

Eriksson successfully went for the revenge in the 47 minute. After a turnover, he drove a left wing attack and tipped the ball to Hampus Nydenfeldt. He converted from a nice scoring position in the slot. Storvreta had some decent chances thereafter, but it took them until the 55th minute to go for the lead for the first time. Gabriel Kohonen stole the ball, went for the one-two with Ondrej Nemecek and converted a left wing fast break.

Falun pulled Carl Bending-Sörling in the last two minutes, but could not create sufficient pressure to make the ball pass the line guarded by Mans Parsjö. Instead, with the goalie back in the net, Sakarias Ulriksson beautifully converted a fast break he drove with Eriksson to decide the match with just 39 second left to play. Even though Emil Johansson closed the gap back to one goal seven seconds later, the match was decided and Storvreta won the cup – just as they did in the 2024 Men’s Finals.

Storvreta IBK – IBF Falun – My View of the Match

The first two periods were rather a match for floorball tactics and strategy lovers. You could also say that the match boosted the shot clock rule discussion in floorball. However, with their comeback, the team from Uppsala closed the storybook of the 2024/25 season in a remarkable manner. The final period was dramatic with some nice offensive action. By the way, you have to praise Falun for their absoltely great sportsmanship manner in the victory ceremony. Not a single player or official took down the silver medal after the ceremony. There were many hugs and friendly words for the winners, Storvreta IBK. Finally, this is my story of that final maatch at Avicii Arena.
