It felt like the same procedure as every year. There is a certain kind of bet between me and Swiss National Team goalie Lara Heini that I will report from the Swedish Floorball Final until I finally have a picture of her and the golden medal. The 2026 trip was different: FBC Kalmarsund had beaten her Pixbo IBK in four matches in the semifinals, so that I knew before that 25th April 2026 that I will have to come back in 2027 again. Kalmarsund made it to the SM-Finalen at Avicii Arena in Stockholm for the very first time. Their opponent – another business as usual thing – was again Thorengruppen IBK from Umea. The dominating team of the last season won their series in four matches as well, but just had one of their matches decided in regular match time.

A very interesting focus on the match was from a German perspective as well: with Martin Brückner, Kalmarsund is lead by a German coach. Thus, Martin could become the first German to win the Swedish championship since legendary Fredrik Holtz, who had won the title thrice in a row with Storvreta IBK between 2010 and 2012.

Swedish Floorball Finals (Women) – Match Report
Officially, just over 10,000 people saw the first match of the day. However, this figure felt much more realistic towards the end of the match. The people who made it later to Avicii Arena definitely missed an amazing first period. No waiting, no strategic waiting for the opponent’s mistake. There was speed and good plays in a high frequency from the very beginning. A key factor for that was Kalmarsund, who had an excellent game plan during that time. Thorengruppen might have been slightly superior in ball possession, but they frequently ran into fast and wisely played attacks by Kalmarsund, who just missed scoring during the first minutes.

Their superiority of the underdog turned into the first goal of the match after nine minutes. Karolina Klubalova, who did not convert an excellent opportunity right before her goal, profited from a nice right wing pass by Ellen Bäckstedt. The lead was absolutely deserved at that time, Thorengruppen was somehow lucky that the power break gave them increased momentum. And the favorites came to the capital with some of the finest ladies in floorball. One of them is definitely Emelie Wibron, who tied the score from the right wing in the 14th minute. Less than three minutes later, Wibron felt upsetting the story of that period entirely. She scored with a low shot from central back position – maybe the only situation on that day, at which Kalmarsund’s netminder Thea Ekholt did not look that well. However, Klubalova tied the score in the penultimate minute of the period, converting a fast break. Ellen Bäckstedt, who assisted again that situation, almost scored the lead with five second left on the match clock – but was solely beaten by the crossbar.
Kalmarsund feels superior in the second period
While the first period felt epic with a bit of luck for Thorengruppen, the match got more of a strategic touch in the second one. Kalmarsund still had these so-well played offensive attacks in their playbook, but Lovisa Hedin more and more turned into their toughest task on this day. 8-3 shots in the second period were again clearly in favor for the Kalmar ladies. The Northern Swedish favorites did have some decent chances towards the end of the period, though. Veera Kauppi likely had the best one from a short distance in the 36th minute. But so far, the Kauppi Twins still were at 0 points for that match. No goals in the second period added quite a bit of thrill to the 2026 Swedish Finals.

Thorengruppen does it short-handed!
You need to mention Hedin’s great performance in this match report – but the other big factor in Thorengruppen’s game was Emelie Wibron. Assisted by Swiss National Team player Linn Larsson, Wibron gave back the lead to her team in the 49th minute. In the 52nd minute, Amanda Delgado Johansson had to go to the penalty bench for a high sticking offense. However, instead of Kalmarsund tying the score, this short-handed situation turned in favor for the regular season winners. Veera Kauppi drove a central fast break attack after a turnover, passing the the ball to Maja Viström on the wing. Her direct shot raised Thorengruppen’s lead to 4-2 with eight minutes left on the clock.

Kalmarsund did keep the pressure high, but even playing without goalie in the last four minutes could not bring them back into the match. The final score: 4-2.
Swedish Floorball Finals (Women) – My View of the Match
The same procedure as every year? Somehow, yes. Thorengruppen did it again. I felt that Kalmarsund had the better game play, especially in the first period. Lovisa Hedin saved her team from a defeat, based on German coaching. What a proud moment for Martin Brückner and the German floorball community. Even the Innebandymagazinet saw Kalmarsund as the better team on that afternoon. Bad luck that he just did not make it. Nonetheless, the Head Coach of the Year in Swedish women floorball is definitely German.

You also have to mention the Umea dominance in Swedish women floorball. Since 2017, all but one champion (Täby FC / Stockholm 2019) came from that city. For Team Thorengruppen, it was the sixth consecutive victory. That’s impressing on the one hand, but also not good for the sports as such. Kalmarsund was much closer to break this streak than the score finally suggests.
