A lovely combination of beautiful nature in the Pyrenees, interesting historic sights and rather modern shopping districts – I absolutely loved visiting Andorra for the first time in November 2022. I had great weather as well so that I could visit a few of the Miradors, the view points. One of the most famous ones is Mirador Roc del Quer, which is also coming with some touristic infrastructure. Here is my review.
Mirador Roc del Quer – Location & Admission
Roc del Quer is located at the CS-240 road, the Carretera del Coll d’Ordino, which connects the two cities of Ordino and Canillo over the 1980 meter high Coll d’Ordino. The road is regarded to be Andorra’s only mountain pass road, which is solely located in the country itself. However, the Mirador is very close to Canillo – you nonetheless have to drive up a bunch of switchback curves before you made it to the area. The place is very popular, also for hiking, there is a major parking lot located some 200 meters before the entry point to the area.
The area is private property. The access to the viewing platform is blocked out of operation hours. At the time of visit, Mirador Roc del Quer opened daily from 10:00 to 18:00 hrs. For the very last part of your visit, including the platform, admission is 5 EUR. Parking at the parking lot is free. There is motorcycle parking right next to the entrance.
Mirador Roc del Quer – The Visit
Once you passed the first gates, there is still a walk of some 400 to 500 meters until the viewing platform. The views from that hiking path are already spectacular, as you can see on the pictures below.
In order to have the best views of the valley and the mountains you have to pay the admission fee at the guard. This gives you access to a terrace-alike structure. From there, you can also walk down an easy path to the viewing platform. As you see on the pictures below, the platform also has some glass floor. Unfortunately, all the gravel in the hiking shows has caused a bunch of scratches on the glass, so that you can practically not see through it. The platform as such is maybe 20 meters long and has a characteristic statue at the end.
Views from Mirador Roc del Quer
Finally, the views are what it is all about. And yes, they are great on a clear day. You see the remaining road down to Caniillo, the mountains around and the main valley of Andorra. Despite I visited Andorra in November, it was still rather crowded up there. I could imagine that in summer, this place is not that enjoyable on weekends and other peak days.
Mirador Roc del Quer – Services
Right where you enter the area, there is a cafe with public toilets. The prices were reasonable.
Mirador Roc del Quer – My View
On a sunny day, the views from Mirador Roc del Quer are amazing. However, if you are on a hike or if you drove from Ordino, you had some really great views on your route already. In these cases, you might be able to skip it… But, on the other hand, this might be about the coolest picture you can put on your Instagram account or show your beloved ones at home. The price for that is 5 Euro. If the maintenance of the glass was better, I would not doubt to state that it is absolutely worth it.
