Swedish Floorball Finals (Men) – Storvreta IBK – IBF Falun 3-2 (1-0, 1-2, 1-0)

Two big names of floorball faced in the Swedish Men Floorball Finals on 25th April 2026. At Stockholm’s Avicii Arena, Storvreta IBK clashed with IBF Falun. The two league leaders after the regular seasons both did their best-of-seven semfinal tasks in five attempts, giving them quite a bit of time to prepare for the big game in front of the big crowd in the capital’s famous bowl.

Swedish Floorball Finals (Men) – Match Report

12,672 spectators in the arena saw a rather tactical and strategic beginning of the match. Both teams just did not want to trail in score early. Storvreta was a bit more active and thus also deserved getting into the lead. Sakarias Ulriksson completed a ninth minute attack initiated by Gabriel Kohonen. Soon thereafter, there were bench penalties. However, neither Falun could profit from an 11th minute power play caused by Filip Langer, nor Langer’s team, who had man advantage after Emil Hallqvist-Johansson was sent off for a hit in the 13th minute. The match stayed fast and physical, but there was no additional goal in the first period.

Storvreta with a Good Start into the 2nd Period

Storvreta raised the score in the 23rd minute. Otto Weidman converted after a Filip Eriksson assist. They felt being stronger now, but Falun did not give up and started scoring on their behalf as well. Just some two minutes later, Emil Lundmark coverted from a nice slot position. When Lukas Rossenklint tied the score in the twelfth minute, the match got additional thrill. No more scores in the remaining second period – this was also due to the fact that IBF Falun survived another short-handed situation. Casper Backby had been sent off in the 36th minute for holding.

Overtime? Langer denies!

Both teams had their chances to take the lead in the third minute. However, the goalies and defensive lines did good jobs and the audience was already in the mood for a dramatic overtime or shoot-out decision. However, Filip Langer aimed for an earlier party. Assisted by Eriksson, he brought back the lead to Storvreta with a little less than three minutes to go.  That was indeed sufficient time for Falun to at least force the match to last longer than 60 minutes.

However, just 30 second later, Hallqvist-Johansson pushed his opponent into the back, so that the Storvreta player fell into the rink. The decision for another bench penalty felt a bit too hard on the one hand. On the other hand, it was ust that kind of foul you don’t want to have in floorball. Storvreta used the power play to hold the ball and pass it from one of their players to another. Time was ticking down without Falun being able to pull Karl Bending-Sörling. Finally, the Falun goalie was able to leave his goalkeeper’s area, but it was too late. Storvreta won the match by 3-2.

Swedish Floorball Finals (Men) – My View of the Match

With the close score and the late goal, the SM-Finalen on the men’s side was a dramatic happening indeed. The match was perfect education for floorball coaches in regards of game planning and strategy. However, these modern floorball matches tend to be less attractive as well. For the ninth time since 2010 and the third time in a row, Storvreta IBK finished the season with a golden medal.
