ETV Hamburg vs. TV Eiche Horn Bremen – this match feels like such an icon in the German floorball scene. The former Northern German classic battle did have some other setting since a few seasons, though. Bremen had relegated to the 2nd Floorball Bundesliga and thus they traveled to Hamburg to play the PiranHHas’ second team in the 2nd Floorball Bundesliga (North/West Division). Nonetheless, you could expect some increased emotions on Sunday, 10th November 2024 at Sporthalle Hoheluft.

ETV Hamburg II – TV Eiche Horn – Match Report
Bremen’s coach Andreas Kasche trusted in young female goalie Henriette Berger, who was his netminder of the match, facing Fritz Deutsch on the other side. Both goalies had to face rather early goals, with Felix Vatterodt giving an early lead for the hosts. After 2:36 minutes, he took profit of a turnover in the Eiche defense and scored by a lovely snipe. Hamburg went for pressure on their opponents, which also lead to gaps in the defense. Denis Komarov tied the score after four minutes, converting a right wing fast break driven by Per Gerdsen. Both teams got better into the game but Ben Schönfelder (Bremen) took the first bench penalty of the match after a foul at the edge of the rink (13th). The PiranHHas bit in power-play when Namgyal Vogl tipped in the rebound after a shot by Christoph Foers (15th).
Hamburg felt superior in this first period, but their opponents had a really nice playbook with well-performed attacks. Likely, the nicest goal of the period was by the guests, when Marcel Westermann in the slot profited from a precise Komarov pass and brought back the tied score with just 32 second left before the first intermission.
Hamburg Takes The Lead After 40 Minutes
The hosts had the better start in the second period. Berger’s defense was a bit too inactive in the 24th minute, when Carl von Bismarck gave Hamburg the lead. Just some 30 seconds later, Hamburg cheered for another goal. Fabian Zähnler aimed for the long post with a flat shot and gave his team the intermediate 4-2 lead. Hamburg took more and more control of the game, also driven by two bench penalties for Bremen, who did not manage to be that efficient in their attacks any more. While there was quite some action in the first period, the second one did not come with too many highlights, but a happier ending for the PiranHHas.
A Full Match Report in the Third Period
You definitely shouldn’t have been too late from the loo or cigarette break after the intermission, as the crazy third period started with two goals in the first nine seconds. Goers scored for Hamburg from the left wing after just three seconds, while Westermann closed up just six seconds later. Goers also took the next entry into the match report, when he blocked the stick of the opponent and went for the sin bin. Westermann finally sniped from the right wing towards the end of the penalty (50th). A bit of disturbing and unsportsmanlike, it sounded to me that there were announcements about the remaining penalty time over the arena’s sound system, so that was a decent move by the gods of floorball.
The last ten minutes of the match had quite a dramatic touch, when Namgyal Vogl and Fabian Zähler were on the penalty bench in parallel, the latter even for a 2+2 minute penalty for an ellbow hit. Bremen could not take profit from the about one minute two man advantage. Rather towards the end of Zähnler’s sent-off, Christoph Goers made it to the match report again, scoring a short-handed goal for Hamburg in the 55th minute by a fast break. Mika Felix Ibe decided the match some two minutes later after a right wing fast break some two minutes later, going for the 7-4 score. Bremen tried to push, but also faced a bench penalty in the last minutes, so that Hamburg finally won this prestigious battle.

ETV Hamburg II – TV Eiche Horn – My View of the Match
The second period of the match was a bit of lengthy, but overall, it was an interesting match with quite a lot of young and talented players on both sides. Hamburg profited from a second period, also based on a rather vague lead by the referees. They should have had some penalties during that part of the match, while Bremen was definitely more lucky in that regard in the third period – and could not profit from that sufficiently. Just 38 spectators at Sporthalle Hoheluft unfortunately – the Hamburg vs. Bremen floorball battle did have some much more glorious atmospheres in the past, definitely.
