FC Atert Bissen – KI Klaksvik 1-2 (1-1 – agg: 2-4)

The story of FC Artert Bissen is truly amazing: just about a year before they were having their European Cup debut, they were still in the second division of the Luxembourg soccer league system. They beat Sporting Bettemburg in the play-offs, promoted to the top division BGL Ligue – and won the 2025-26 championship with a last matchday victory.

On 15th July 2026, they had their first home match at the UEFA Champions League. In the 2nd leg of the first qualifying round, they faced a team, which had become a small team soccer legend in recent times. Their opponent on that day was KI Klaskvik. The Faroese champion (my favorites, sorry Bissen!) gained a lot of international love when they made it into the 2023-24 Europa Conference League group stage. Klaksvik had won the first leg 2-1 at their home ground Vid Djupumyrar, so that the situation was still close. Unfortunately, Bissen could not compete this match on their home ground Stade Klengbousbierg, but had to host the match at the beautiful national stadium, Stade de Luxembourg.

FC Atert Bissen – KI Klaksvik – Match Report

The match started with a quite a bit of action. The first minor opportunity was by Johannes Danielson in the third minute, but Bissen went right into the fast break and had a really good one by Tiago Rodrigues da Costa. Da Costa was the unlucky guy of the match and had to leave the pitch injured minutes later, replaced by Lenny Correia. Things got even worse for the hosts, when they simply forgot in the ninth minute that Arni Frederiksberg might go for a snipe from any position. Neither the defense nor goalie Yassine Gouari Tebbaa looked good at that high shot, which was a typical beauty by the Faroese player. In the following minutes, Klaksvik had a few decent opportunities, but Atert came back into the match. In the 25th minute, Roman Ferber tied the score and also profited from a less disciplined KI defense.

The crowd did try to push their team now and you really felt that this match could be a battle. Bissen had more ball possession and increased pressure, but overall, the KI defense did not look that bad in this situation. The best chance was likely by Bissen’s Tyron Crame (39th), but KI had some nice opportunities right thereafter. The score of that match stayed tied, so that KI still saved their home match result advantage until the intermission.

Bissen struggles in Offense

Even though the last part of the first half was not thrilling any more, the second half definitely felt worse. There were many reasons for that. One reason was that the match became more mental. There were a couple of too physical situations and overall, the match became more mental. On the other hand, KI tried to play down the clock early, while Bissen acted harmless. In the few situation they could have added some hot spices to this Luxembourg-Faroe Islands soccer curry, they failed too easily. And then, there was Frederiksberg, who should be in your books for the Player of the Match award. In the 59th minute, he delivered a corner from the left attack side and Pall Klettskard just needed to give the ball a slight touch to make the small blue fan sector change into party mode.

There was a lot of fight on the national stadium pitch now. Bissen definitely tried to go for a comeback in front of more than 2,000 spectators. However, many offensive ideas did not feel to work out. There were mistakes on both sides and you also cannot feel bad for the spectators that they more and more focused the North Macedonian referee Igor Stojchevski. Bissen felt too far away from scoring two goals and bringing this match to overtime and somehow, the final whistle felt being a relief for everyone.

FC Atert Bissen – KI Klaksvik – My View of the Match

Even though soccer fans who opted for the parallel World Cup match between England and Argentina might have seen some nicer action, this Champions League battle had its charming touch. The setting was beautiful and the atmosphere was nice. Bissen, who just started the pre-season work struggled to fully get into this significant challenge against the experienced Faroese. Nonetheless, if they can build on the soccer fairy tale they wrote during the following two seasons, they might do significantly more successful in their European story in the 2027-28 season.

Klaksvik overall did what was needed and also profited from some weaker spots in the opponent’s game. Nonetheless, they need to improve for the second round – a victory against FK Kauno Zalgiris in Lithuania would at least seal them the ticket for the Conference League group phase – which would repeat the wonder they fulfilled in the 2023-24 season.
