by After the Swiss National Team had a rather disappointing last period in their second match against Czechia, it was time to regain some faith for the semifinals. For their last group match at the Under 19 Girls World Floorball Championships 2024, they had to battle Czechia’s neighbor Slovakia. With an 8-3 victory against Latvia, Slovakia had already secured the third spot in Group A and even had a small chance to get into the semis with an upset.

Switzerland – Slovakia – Match Facts
Switzerland started very energetically and put their opponents under pressure. Slovakia fought well against the favorites, but Norina Reusser was just too strong at the beginning of the match. With two goals in the first six minutes, she gave Switzerland the momentum. Even though the match turned into a dramatic battle, Slovakia could initially not defeat the Swiss defense and goalkeeper Ania Schneider. Switzerland did control the match and raised the score to 4-0 in the second period (36th). Remarkably, the fourth goal was scored by Lisa von Arx right after she was released from the penalty bench.
A second period goal by Klaudia Chupekova gave Slovakia some hope, which even increased when Lenka Cervena added a second score in the 49th minute.Thereafter, the match had a dramatic touch, as Slovakia tried to pull the goalie as often as possible. Apart from a short-handed situation, they indeed put pressure on their opponents. Finally, Anja Gross relieved her team from that pressure when she scored an empty-net goal, which also lead to the final score of 5-2.
