After I featured the “Goldenes Oval” Opening Meeting track events in my first posting, it is time to have a look at the field events. The athletics meetings a bit of a focus on the running disciplines, but also showed some of the technical ones. Here is my second posting from Heinz-Steyer-Stadion in Dresden.
This posting comes with 185 major size pictures in the sports gallery.
Goldenes Oval Opening 2024 – The Field Events
Here are my notes from the field events.
High Jump (Men)
The men’s high jump was the first technical discipline on that Friday evening in Dresden. Two out of five competitors had to bow out after passing 2.00m already, so that the competition was rather fast. Finally, Serbian Slovko Stevic dominated the competition. He was the only athlete passing the bar at a height of 2.14m and 2.17m.
Athlete | Meters | |
1st | Slavko Stevic (Serbia) | 2.17 |
2nd | Keyan Ghanbarzadeh (Germany) | 2.11 |
3rd | Adam Tomasek (Czechia) | 2.08 |
Discus Throw (Women)
The discus throw as well as the triple jump were held as mixed competitions. Of course, there were separate rankings, but male and female athletes altered, round by round. The women’s discus throw was rather stunning, with Leverkusen’s Marike Steinacker having the two best throws of the competition.
Athlete | Meters | |
1st | Marike Steinacker (Germany) | 63.63 |
2nd | Kristin Prudenz (Germany) | 61.06 |
3rd | Claudine Vita (Germany) | 58.91 |
Discus Throw (Men)
Steven Richter took the lead in the fourth round of the male competition of the discus throw. However, previous leader Victor Hogan (South Africa) fought back in the fifth throw and finally got the golden medal in Dresden.
Athlete | Meters | |
1st | Victor Hogan (South Africa) | 61.65 |
2nd | Steven Richter (Germany) | 60.89 |
3rd | Marius Karges (Germany) | 59.89 |
Triple Jump (Men)
The mixed-style competition in the triple jump felt a bit more complex as male and female athletes had differently positioned takeoff boards. Romanian Razvan Cristian Grecu won with quite a gap, just missing the 16 meter mark. His final attempt likely would have even made this mark, but he hit the board.
Athlete | Meters | |
1st | Razvan Cristian Grecu (Romania) | 15.96 |
2nd | Pascal Boden (Germany) | 15.37 |
3rd | Maximilian Skake (Germany) | 15.06 |
Triple Jump (Women)
With Leverkusen’s Imke Daalmann not competing, there were just three triple jumpers in that discipline. Cologne’s Jessie Maduka beat two Czech athletes with her second jump. After two missed attempts in the third and fourth attempt, she did not go for a fifth and sixth jump any more.
Athlete | Meters | |
1st | Jessie Maduka (Germany) | 13.26 |
2nd | Emma Mastalifova (Czechia) | 12.89 |
3rd | Veronika Skalicka (Czechia) | 12.36 |
Javelin Throw (Men)
Seven athletes competed in the male javelin throw, the last technical discipline of the evening. Latvian Gatis Cakss had a first attempt over 70 meters already and then saved the victory with his third throw. Even though the trailing competitors could improve in their later attempts, there was finally a gap of over two meters over second-placed German Amin Labdi.
Athlete | Meters | |
1st | Gatis Cakss (Latvia) | 74.62 |
2nd | Amin Labdi (Germany) | 72.43 |
3rd | Maurice Voigt (Germany) | 70.70 |
