Hall of Fame Open 2024 – Men’s Doubles Final: R. Cash / James Tracy (USA) – A. Goransson (SWE) / S. Verbeek (NED) 3-6 4-6

The first match on the last day of the Infosys Hall of Fame Open has been the doubles final. At least, one Indian player could state that they lost against the tournament winner. Wildcards Robert Cash and James Tracy (both USA) had eliminated A. Chandrasekar and A. Kadhe in the semifinals (which I could not cover due to illness). Their opponents, sixth-seeded Swedish Andre Goransson and Dutch Sem Verbeek, eliminated British Joshua Paris and Indian Ramkumar Ramathan in the first round already.

Infosys Hall of Fame Open – Men’s Doubles Final – Match Report

The seeded European pairing had the more fortunate start. They broke the US-American wildcards in their very first game at serve, giving them an early 3-0 lead. The Swedish-Dutch pairing even had the chance to add another break in the fourth game of the match, but Cash and Tracy could hold the serve in the crucial no-ad situation. This lead to significant push in their game, They acted more confident, but Goransson and Verbeek acted too strong. They did not allow a single break point against their serve in the first set – and finally, this early break lead to the 6-3 set victory.

The second set began with another crucial situation. The US-Americans served in the first game, facing a 30-40 situation and thus two break points. However, they managed to survive and played stronger now. In the following game, the Swedish-Dutch pair was under pressure. The US-Americans won the first two points and a double fault lead to the deuce decider. However, Goransson and Verbeek managed to cheat the gallows. The following games went more or less straight to the serving party, until the seventh games (as so often…) decided the match. Cash and Tracy went into a 30-40 at own serve and thus faced a double break point. Their opponent were just too experienced not to profit from that and converted the first one. After that, there were only rather straight matches. Again, a single weaker game decided the set and thus the match.
