Being in the middle of the Globen and being on top of the Globen – this could be somehow the sum-up of my trip to Stockholm in April 2025. While my Saturday on the last weekend of the month featured the men’s final and women’s final of the Swedish Floorball League SSL, I made use of perfect weather the day before. Skyview is an inclined elevator on one side of the Globen – or Avicii Arena, which is the official name of the venue. I took a ride with them and share my experience.

Skyview Stockholm – Location & Admission

Skyview is located on the West side of the iconic Avicii Arena, right opposite to the entrance to Globen Shopping mall. The easiest way to get there is by Stockholms metro system tunnelbana. One branch of the Southbound green line, T19 stops at Globen. From the metro station, it is only a short walk. As the area features a couple of other venues, including the 3Arena soccer arena and the Hovet, which is also used for ice hockey, you may also get there by car on non-event days rather easily. The arena is located outside of the Stockholm congestion tax area.

The Skyview times differ by season. In winter, they typically open from 10:00 to 16:00 with a lunch break. In spring and fall season, Monday to Friday times are 10:00 to 18:00 and 10:00 to 16:00 during the weekend. In the peak period in summer, i.e. in most July and August, daily times are 10:00 to 19:00. The adult admission for a ride is 180 SEK, roughly 16.50 EUR. Tickets have a time slot, due to the capacity of the ride. During my visit in April, there was one ride every 20 minutes. As they just used one of the lifts, I strongly guess that they can double the frequency in more popular times.

Skyview Stockholm – The Ride

Your visit at Skyview Stockholm starts with an introductory movie, which tells you a bit about Avicii Arena, the ride and the sights you can see from the top of the iconic arena. You can also download an app, which helps you during your visit. I got around without it very well, though. Until the opening of The Sphere in Las Vegas, the arena was the largest spherical building on Earth, with a diameter of 110 meters. The inner height of it is about 85 meters. For ice hockey, floorball or similar events, the capacity is 13,860, while it can hold up to 16,000 people for concerts.

After the introduction, you are guided to one of the gondolas. They are equivalent and come with a capacity of 16 people / 1200kg. Apart from the floor and the metal construction, it is all glass, so that you have a good view in each direction. Even though my ride just had some ten people, it already felt a bit of narrow, especially when being on top. You can also sit in the middle, especially during your trip up and down. One direction takes about three minutes, we spent some six to seven minutes on top of the Globen. You should not be afraid of height. One visitor on my ride had to sit down and close her eyes. I have to say that especially the steep last part of your downward trip does come with quite some excitement. There are no announcements or similar while you are riding the Skyview.

Views from Skyview Stockholm

Avicii Arena is some 3.5 kilometers South of key sights like Gamla Stan, the Old Town of Stockholm. Between most of the Stockholm sights and Skyview, there is the island of Södermalm. Thus, while the arena is central for a large entertainment venue like this one, it is not ideal for an observation point. The views of the sports venues and the facilities around is great. However, if you really want to spot the areas you love to explore as a tourist, you are quite far away from them. The distance to Djurgaden with its iconic museums is also in a similar distance. You see that on the pictures below.

Skyview Stockholm – Services

The staff at Skyview was very friendly. There is a small gift shop at the end of the ride. However, the range of items related to Skyview and the area is surprisingly limited. Therefor, they are not too bad for general Swedish tourist stuff. You can grab a drink at the reception, but there are no other refreshments offered by the ride or which are operated by the arena outside events. However, as Globen Shopping is just across the square, this is not absolutely necessary.

Skyview Stockholm – The Ride

Skyview Stockholm is iconic. The ride is interesting and does come with a certain thrill. You do have some nice views, but finally you don’t get to see what you would love to do. I loved the experience, but you don’t have to do that for the view – unless you are a sports nerd like me and enjoy the view of the venues around.
