Hall of Fame Open 2024 – MSQ R2: Alex Bolt (AUS) – Mitchell Krueger (USA) 6-3 7-6(6)

After having had a look into the men’s singles main draw match of Mayot and Kovacevic, I went back to the outer courts, having a look at the deciding matches of the men’s singles qualification matches. In one of the four matches deciding for the last entry spots into main draw, Australian Alex bolt faced domestic player Mitchell Krueger.

Infosys Hall of Fame Open – Bolt vs. Krueger – Match Notes

This second match on Court 1 was a close tennis battle. There were only two break points in the first set, one each per competitor. Krueger faced the first one, at own serve in the sixth game at an intermediate score of 15-40. Bolt converted the first one with a strong return. The US-American had the the chance for an immediate re-break, but Bolt survived at own serve after two deuce situations. Thereafter, Alex Bolt won the first set after a safe ninth game at own serve.

The second set felt to more or less run straight into the tie-break. Only in the eighth game, where Bolt was on serve, went into a deuce situation at all. In this game, Krueger even had the only break point of the set, but Bolt scored with a direct winner in this crucial situation. The Australian felt to have a better touch in the deciding game, leading 4-1 and 6-4 in the tie-break. However, fifth seeded Krueger showed great fighting spirit and saved two match points against him. Instead of going for his first set point at 6-6 and own serve, Bolt had another mini-break with a winner. At own serve, Bolt outplayed his opponent in a long rally, winning the match with another “big point”.
