Right before I had the third and last Weird Al Yankovic concert during my April 2022 trip through New England, I had a night in Boston. As the Central Boston locations come with rather ridiculous pricing, I went for a place slightly outside the city. Despite I visited a Boston Bruins match at TD Garden, the DoubleTree by Hilton Boston Bayside felt to offer a nice balance between location and price. Here is my review of my stay.

 

DoubleTree Boston Bayside – Location

The DoubleTree by Hilton Boston Bayside is located South of the city center, close to the University of Massachusetts campus. The area is majorly commercial, there are a few hotels and services around. The key attraction of the area is the amazing John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, which is about a mile East of the hotel.

Despite the slightly remote location, the hotel is well connected to public transport. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel (bus lines 8, 16). However, it is much more handy to walk to the UMass / JFK station, which features train and subway connections (Red Line subway) and bus lines 8, 16 and 41. The Interstate I-93 is close to the hotel. You may park your car in front of a nearby office building for 19 USD. The state of the parking lot is critical, though. The picture on the right, for example, shows a deep hole in the pavement, which may potentially lead to serious injuries.

 

DoubleTree Boston Bayside – Room

I had a Park & Stay rate, which featured free parking and a one day cancellation period. The one night rate was 193.31 USD, including taxes. I felt to receive the King Standard Room I booked, despite my Hilton Honors Diamond status. The room was actually quite nice and spacious. I liked the work desk as well as the relaxing armchair close to the window.

The bathroom was in line with the typical Hilton design. The American bathtub and shower was sufficient, the bathroom felt sufficiently spacious and was absolutely clean. Typical amenities were provided. The view of the room was rather a large parking lot (not the hotel one), but there was some sea view more far behind – likely the best view possible in this place.

 

DoubleTree Boston Bayside – Breakfast

As a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I received an 18 USD credit for food – which (what a shocker…) exactly matched the price for the buffet breakfast. Alternatively, you could also have a Grab and Go breakfast at the Starbucks outlet located in the hotel lobby. The breakfast was within typical North American breakfast range. The quality was good, the service was fine. A good start of the day.

 

DoubleTree Boston Bayside – Service

I was not too happy with the reception service. The check-in was rather neutral. There was no water in the room, which I did not have for quite a while in Hilton hotels. At check-out, the hotel has added parking to my invoice, even though my rate included free parking. Another invoice issue was that the tipping for breakfast did not pop up on the hotel invoice. Vice versa, this means that the amount deducted from my credit card does not match the invoice. I never had a similar situation before. The WiFi worked well. There is a nice, cozy gym for hotel guests.

In addition, just a couple of minutes after check-in, a technician knocked on my door to repair something in the bathroom. I did not like that reception staff wore masks but the technical staff went into my room without a mask.

 

DoubleTree Boston Bayside – My View

Staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton Boston Bayside just did not feel like a 200 USD stay. There were too many service issues in this place. I would rather look for other options if I were in the city the next time, even knowing that this might likely lead to higher room prices.
