Halloween in North America and a public holiday in the rather catholic parts of Europe – the music industry has not been that active this week. My Songs of the Week this time are coming with a strong contrast – a rocking first parts and rather gentle melodies thereafter. No Christmas songs so far – there will be at least a holiday season album next week (so far, I did not like any of the one I scanned). Enjoy my favorite new single releases of the week as of 1st November 2024.
The Night Flight Orchestra – Shooting Velvet
The Swedish classic rock band from Helsingborg present themselves with a plane above their heads on their website. This picture is also for the new single Shooting Velvet This is, of course, not the reason why I went for this song as the leading one- I simply love the melodic sound of the track. The seventh studio album of TTNO is expected for 31st January 2025.
Smash Into Pieces – Hurricane
Two leading songs from Sweden this time – Smash Into Pieces are just a bit harder than their countrymen. The song is a lovely metal anthem. A really cool new release by Chris Adam Hedman Sörbye and his bandmates.
Dorothy – The Devil I Know
The US-American hard rock band Dorothy have been founded in 2014 in Los Angeles. So far, they have released two EPs and three albums. The last full release has been Gifts from the Holy Ghost in 2022. This song is inspired by the scary Halloween season.
We are Riot – Shadows Fall Behind
We are Riot is a band from Bremen in Germany. Shadow Fall Behind is part of a three track EP, which is dealing with a hard luck event among their friends. A lovely and fine rock ballad.
Ian Fisher – Take You With Me
Take You With Me is a feature single for the upcoming Go Gentle album by Ian Fisher. Born in the USA, Fisher is nowadays based in Vienna, Austria. In March and April 2025, he is expected to tour in Germany and his country of residence. Nice indie sound with a touch of country music.
Solo Canzoni feat. Dauchy – Run For Your Love
Solo Canzoni, civil first name Stefano, is a Venice-born Italian artist. This week, he released the beautifully gentle Run For Your Love, for which he partnered with Dauchy. She is taking over the lead vocal role – a lovely perfomance.
Lauren Spencer Smith – small
Lauren Spencer Smith is a Canadian artist, who had quite some success with her previous single release Fingers Crossed. Small is the first released part of her sophomore. A very personal, catching listen.
Singin’ IDA! x Volkan Baydar x Maite Sophie –
Time After Time
Singin’ IDA is a quite popular children’s choir from Hamburg. This week, they joined forces with two adult musicians and released a new version of Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time. I felt this is a nice one to open the holiday season.
