Germany is sunk in strikes of different kinds, mainly in transportation business. I have been impacted this week by that several times again, which makes me look forward to a rather relaxing weekend in the Greater Munich area this weekend. Nonetheless, relax time needs to be earned and I hope you like my selection of new releases as from 2nd March to 8th March 2024.
Lleow – 1995
Lleow is the alter ego of Gabriele Steiner. The Austrian artist is in her 40’s and decided to go back writing songs, releasing music. 1995 is her debut song, which reminds of classic college rock of the 1990’s. I loved it and thus put it on the top of my song selection this week.
Blues Pills – Birthday
Blues Pills have been founded in Örebro in Sweden in 2011. The blues rock band, lead by Elin Larsson, has already released three studio albums so far. Interestingly, their chart placements in Germany, Austria and Switzerland were typically better than in Sweden. Birthday comes with a nice rock sound.
Smash Into Pieces – Heroes Are Calling
The Swedish rocker released their new single already last Saturday – just a day too late for my previous Songs of the Week edition. Heroes Are Calling is a really nice rock song with a catching melody.
Final Stair – Nero
Nero is the last feature single by Final Stair, before they release the album Under Fire on 22nd March 2024. In that time, the band from Berlin is also kicking off a tour through Germany. Really nice sound.
Nieve Ella – The Things We Say
After her successful 2023 EP Lifetime of Wanting, the British pop artist Nieve Ella released her single The Things We Say this Thursday. Very nice sound with a touch of rock – good listen.
Joya Marleen – Fire
Swiss artist Joya Marleen already had an airplay success with her single Nightmare. Now, she is back with Fire – and will be touring in April as well. Sounds promising.
Luke Hemmings – Shakes
Luke Hemmings is typically known as lead singer of 5 Seconds of Summer. However, in 2021 already, the Australian released his solo debut album. Shakes comes with a very modern, nice, but also relaxed sound.
Reaven feat. John Gleason Jr. – Never Let Me Go
This is a really nice and easy pop song, ain’t it? I really enjoyed Never Let Me Go by the Paris-based band Reaven. Very nice one.
Rosa Linn – Universe
Rosa Linn is one of the most successful pop acts from Armenia. After her very successful release Snap, she is back with this single, Universe. A touch of Euro-pop, but still coming with a very special touch. Nice one!
Isaac Roux – The Right Place
Indie-folk from Belgium: Isaac Roux released The Right Place on Wednesday. A touch of warmth and spring – definitely a nice listen.
Meg Pfeiffer – Woman Of The Day
Woman Of The Day is Meg Pfeiffer’s contribution to International Women’s Day this year. It is also the first single released of her upcoming album Perspective. The German singer-songwriter is nowadays living in Nashville, together with her husband and famous guitarist Luca Stricagnoli.
Robin Pirker – Hoamkemman
Another Austrian artist I feature this week is Robin Pirker. While he so far released songs in straight German, this is his first Austrian dialect recording. I feel it really works out well.
Patrick Noe – Kreide auf Beton
German artist Patrick Noe released this lovely pop song this week. Kreide auf Beton – “Crayon on concrete”. The song is definitely not that easily being washed away by the next rain. It simply stays in your head too well.
Matteo Myderwyk – The Young Weaver (renaissance piano version)
Mateo Myderwyk is a neoclassical pianist from the Netherlands. In mid-2021 already, he released one of his most successful tracks, The Young Weaver. This week, he released a recording in a different style. I really loved listening to it.
