Flyctory.com Songs Of The Week (week of 1st May 2026)

As you might have seen by the very late coverage of the Swedish Men Floorball Final, I will not be able to guarantee a straight Flyctory.com schedule currently. There are some health issues which will take quite a lot of time to relax and recover. I also had to cancel some trips and coverages, which also includes the upcoming Under 19 Girls World Floorball Championships in Italy. I will try to maintain the Songs of the Week, though – at least as a playlist, but as much as possible as regular posts as well. The 1st May 2026 is rather brief, also due to the holiday on that day in most parts of Europe. Nonetheless, I feel it is an interesting mix of new music.

Bardur Johannesen – The World Is A Fine Place

Another time, a song from the Faroe Islands is leading my Songs of the WeekThe World Is A Fine Place is a quote by Ernest Hemingway. A very reflective song by Bardur Johanessen about the current situation of the world – I really like it!

Gänsehaut – Musik

Gänsehaut? German music enthusiasts might know the name of the band. In the heart of the Neue Deutsche Welle era in the early 1980’s, the band had a huge hit with Karl der Käfer (“Karl the Beetle”), a song about natural destruction. Founding member Gerald Dellmann, who wrote that song, is still member of the band and looks back to 45 years of band history. This week, they praise Musik (“Music”). The lyrics state “Music, you are my life, you are my piece of luck”. I just cannot agree more.

Jacob Brodovsky – Colorado Low

Jacob Brodovsky is a singer-songwriter from Canada. He is releasing his sophomore album Tell The Kids We Tried on 10th July 2026. Colorado Low is the second song release of the record, which will include some really interesting guest musicians as well. Definitely, this one is promising track by the artist from Winnipeg, who won the English Songwriter of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2024.

Ilja – Take Me Home

Ilja is a multi-talented musician. Under his full name Ilja Ruf, he is also a major composer and musician in classic and jazz. As his pop alter ego Ilja, he is doing catching, modern pop music – like his new song Take Me Home. Definitely, a fascinating artist.

China – Bright Lights

Another band with roots in the 1980’s is China. The Swiss rock band released their first single since 2023 this week. They have been founded in 1985 and still celebrate their 40th band anniversary with several tour dates. Really fine classic rock by the band from Winterthur.

Starlight – Vilt tu vita

Another song from the Faroe Islands made it to my list this week. Vilt tu vita (“Do you want to know”) is a classic rocker. Starlight are a quintet around the lead singer Jakup Hansen. A really nice one.

Martina – Bist Du Deppert

Two of the bands I share this week have been part of my 3rd April 2026 Songs of the Week as well. First of all, there were the Faroese rockers Starlight I just mentioned. Secondly, there was the Southern German schlager artist Martina. After Affäre, she now shares her new song Bist Du Deppert (“Are you crazy”). I really love her style and the new song.

Verena Gardener – Jetzt

Verena Gardener closes my this week’s song list. With her new song Jetzt (“Now”), she debuts in my Flyctory.com coverage. The Austrian artist does great storytelling, combines with a really nice singer-songwriter pop style. The song is her fifth song overall.
