Summer vacation season in Germany, national holiday in Switzerland – the music industry obviously felt (or was right) that this weekend might not be the most commercially successful one of the year. Thus, the list of new releases this week was rather short – and the list of songs I liked was even shorter. A surprisingly brief episode of my Songs of the Week this time.
C.C. Catch – Heal Me
This German-Dutch lady gave me so many good memories in the 1980’s – and I still love listening to her songs. Dieter Bohlen is out in the producing team, but Luis Rodriguez is still in. And it so wonderfully sounds like the 1980’s – the time when I felt to be young. Love it!
Fia – The real Me
The following two songs slipped into my Songs of the Week episode just as I had closed it. The first one is my Fia, a Berlin-origin artist who has become famous in Germany as a contestant of The Voice Kids. After her first single Ohne Worte was in German, she is now presenting this fine English pop track.
Imran – Blame it on the rain
Imran Abbas initially became famous as a rap producer. However, he is now also doing modern pop songs. The Hanover-born shows that he is great in this discipline as well.
Kelvin Jones – Mexico
It’s already almost one year since I featured the Kelvin Jones show in October 2023 in Frankfurt. This week, the Zimbabwean-British singer, who is living in Germany is releasing a new song. Mexico has the typical Kelvin Jones signature – I like it.
Moss Kena – Cascading
Moss Kena is a British singer-songwriter from London. He became famous with the song Fireworks by Purple Disco Machine feat. The Knocks, in which he was part of. However, he can do uplifting pop songs as solo recordings as well. Cascading underlines that.
NeroX – Fackeln im Sturm
The first stanza feels a bit weaker, but the chorus of this song is a blast to me. The German artist NeroX is releasing music since 2018, he is nowadays on German songs, somewhere between schlager, pop and rock. I like it!
Marina Marx – Zu mir oder zu ihr
Another schlager track with a rocking attitude I share this week is Zu mir oder zu ihr (“To me or to her?”) by Marina Marx. A very nice track with a great chorus.
Zweifach – Leuchtturm
Zweifach (“Twofold”) is a German female pop duo consisting of Laura Zaydowicz and Sabine Kraft. A lovely song about friendship.
