Flyctory.com Songs Of The Week (week of 30 September 2022)

The last three months of the year are about to start. Traditionally, the focus is rather on well-known artists, their Christmas albums and Best of compilations. However, my Songs of The Week have a really nice mixture of several genres – and emerging artists as well as established ones. Hope you like this set of songs.

Ray.An – Girls

Ray An used to tour in Southern Germany as Andrea Marie. Now she is changing her alter ego to Ray An – and rocks! I also love the slight touch of country / Southern rock in the song. What a powerful single release – just had to share it with you. A well-deserved lead of the playlist this week.

The Standstills – Motherlode (ft. Eagles of Death Metal)

The playlist jumps from Germany to Canada, home of the Standstills. Together with the Eagles of Death Metal, they released Motherlode this week. Nice dark, rocking sound.

Björn Martins – Kein Zufall

What an amazing voice from Saxony in Germany: Kein Zufall (“No fluke”) is a nice, straight German rock song with good lyrics and a high level of memorability. Love it!

Ghost – Mary On A Cross

The Swedish metal band sound very gentle on their new single release, Mary On A Cross. Almost kitschy, but I like it.

Luebke – Spiderwebs

A touch of Brit pop from Northern Germany: Ralf Luebke is an established musician in the regional music scene around Wilhelmshaven. I like the nice groove of his new song Spiderwebs.

Revolverheld – Wenn Du jetzt hier wärst

Revolverheld are quite famous in the German speaking countries. Even though their 2021 album did not sell as well as the releases before, they have a large fan base around here. Their new single by the Hamburg-origin band is definitely a nice one.

Zweikanalton – Koexistieren

Zweikanalton is a band from Linz, Austria. The duo consists of the two brothers Markus and Thomas Danninger. Nice modern German language pop with a good groove.

JPSon – Save Me

JPSon is a very interesting folk-poo artist from South AfricaSave me is featuring his debut album, which will be released in early 2023. Could be a really nice one.

Lisa Pac – Where Did You Sleep?

There are a lot of interesting artists from Austria emerging currently. I just had Alina’s debut EP A+ and Glück by Melissa Naschenweng on my this weekend’s review list. Lisa Pac is a Vienna artist, whom I featured with her song Bedroom in a July edition of Songs of the Week already. Where Did You Sleep? is another great listen.

Alexander Martin – Geht nicht gibt es nicht

Alexander Martin does not only make it to the playlist due to home region bonus (he is actually born close to the city I grew up). Very powerful and energetic schlager release.

Helene Fischer – Wenn alles durchdreht

Even though her market is just limited to the German speaking parts of Europe, Helene Fischer belongs to the best-paid female artists worldwide. Just to illustrate her popularity: in my home town Cologne, she will have six shows in a row in the 18,000 people LanxessArena next year. Thus, a new Helene Fischer single is always exciting – and I really like this song by the German-Russian artist.

Julia Buchner – Revolution meiner Liebe

Another schlager song – but Julia Buchner does it less rocking, but more pop-ish than Martin. Nonetheless, I like the vibe of the track by the Austrian artist.

BoyWiithUke – Sick of U (feat. Oliver Tree)

BoyWIthUke is definitely a social media artist: the US-American grew by TikTok videos – now he is more popular in Germany and the United Kingdom than in his own home country. Nice track, recorded in collaboration with Californian producer Oliver Tree

Frankie Cosmos – F.O.O.F.

Greta Kline is a New York-based artist. Together with her band Frankie Cosmos, she will release the fifth studio album this October. Nice indie-pop sound.

Bruce Springsteen – Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)

Is this The Boss? Yeah, Bruce Springsteen is rocking in gospel style – and it would be a shame not to mention this unique listen.

Buddy Guy x James Taylor – Follow The Money

In parallel to his lovely album The Blues Don’t Lie, Buddy Guy is releasing this feature single. Follow The Money is a great Chicago Blues sound with a lovely groove. Beautiful way to close this series for this week.
