Flyctory.com Songs Of The Week (week of 20 May 2022)

I had a quite long list of songs for my Songs of the Week this time. The 20th May 2022 list is headed by a Japanese artist for the first time. Some German language songs, but no schlager this time – therefor, a lot of rock. Hope that fits to your mood as well.

Rina Sawayama – This Hell

The leading track of my list of songs is featuring a very special artist this time: Rina Sawayama is a Japanese singer-songwriter, who is also working as a model. She is en route to release her sophomore album in September, there is also a European tour this summer and fall. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to listen to This Hell on German stages.

UPSAHL – Monica Lewinsky

I recently had an interview with the Phoenix-origin singer-songwriter Upsahl. Her new release Monica Lewinsky is a real blast.

Diana Ross feat. Tame Impala – Turn Up The Sunshine

Just had to add this one. It made me smile. Diana Ross is back with a new song – you will find it on the soundtrack of the Minions: The Rise of Gru movie.

Foals – 2001

Alternative with a strong funk touch – aren’t these Oxford guys cool? Apart from that, I feel they perfect fit to the Diana Ross track before.

Athena Manoukian & Limitless – Loca

The sound of this track is very Latin American – but in fact, Athena Manoukian is from Armenia. Eurovision Song Contest fans know her – she represented her country in 2020.

Immunity – Sounds like a Melody

I did not have too many hard sounds last week. Immunity from Nuremberg, Germany, do this Alphaville cover very well. Nice metalcore – enjoy headbanging!

Classless Act feat. Vince Neal – Classless Act

Classless Act are a 2019 founded, globally located superband. In their latest release, they feature Vince Neil of Motley Crue. And they feature a lot of rock power.

Def Leppard – Fire It Up

Some more classic hard rock sounds – the British super-rockers from Sheffield just released a new, amazing track. Love to fire my day up with Fire It Up.

Yours Truly feat. Josh Franceschi – Hallucinate

Alternative from Australia. Especially due to the collaboration with English singer-songwriter Josh Franceschi, this song comes with a lot of power on a wide range. Cool.

Grey Daze feat. Chester Bennington – Starting To Fly

Some cool re-recordings of the well-known band Grey Daze are released this year. This is one of them. Cool!

Kiwi Jr. – Night Vision

The band name sounds like these guys are from New Zealand – but in fact, Kiwi Jr. is a Canadian guitar rock band. Cool sound.

Alexisonfire – Sans Soleil

Another track from Maple Leaf state. Really cool song by the post-hardcore band, who are having their 20th band anniversary.

Jack Pott feat. Skamelon – Urlaub auf meinem Balkon

The title of the song means “Holidays on my balcony”. What a cool fun track with punk and ska elements by the Northern German band.

Falk – Wann ist ein Mann ein Mann

In 1984 German rock legend Herbert Grönemeyer asked in his legendary song Männer the question Wann ist ein Mann ein Mann (“When is a man a man”). Sebastian Falk, who is just using his surname as stage name, used it for his 2022 song. Well done.

Aura Dione – Marry Me

Aura Dione is a Danish musician with Faroese and Spanish roots. I somehow feel all these roots in the uplifting Marry Me.

Mark Owen – You Only Want Me

Mark Owen is back! The legendary Take That member released this nice pop song this week. Cool to have a new one from him.

Mary Keey – Shout It Out Loud

Mary Keey is a Swiss artist, who is doing a really cool pop-rock sound. Amazing new single release this week.

Jason Derulo feat. Kodak Black – Slidin’

Slip, Slip, Slidin’ – Jason Derulo is doing a really fun single release this week. Again, there is a touch of funk to me. I personally don’t need the rap part… But that’s what they call “modern” nowadays, I guess…

Lux & Bäer – A Hand wascht die andere

Some Bavarian pop-rock, which is a track about coterie. I just loved the sound of this collaboration of Gary Lux and Ulli Bäer.

Markus feat. Yvonne – Summer of the 80s

Especially Ich will Spaß made Markus a superstar of the German “Neue Deutsche Welle” in the early 1980’s. I felt this guy should close this list of tracks for this week. He simply deserves the honor.
