In this review, I feature a debut album by an exciting band. On 14th February 2025, Love is Noise release their first record, To Live In A Different Way. I had a listen before release day. Here is my review.
Love Is Noise – About The Artist
Love is noise is a British alternative metal band, named after the song by The Verve. They have been formed in 2021. The two founding members are Cameron Humphrey (vocals, guitar) and Tom Mellon (guitar). The third, informal member is drummer Louis Giannamore, who is part of the recording and stage performances, but is not involved in songwriting. They started releasing music in 2021 with the song Pillowcase and released their debut EP Euphoria. Where Were You? one year later.
Love Is Noise – To Live In A Different Way – Track by Track
The eleven song album lasts 45 minutes.
1. Devotion
The album starts with Devotional. The press kit to the record refers to bands like Radiohead or Oasis. Indeed, there is a certain touch of them in this song. On the other hand, you feel a roughness, which also illustrates the emotions and the story of the opener. Here and there, the sound uses quite a lot of distortion. However, Love is Noise are coming back with catching melodies quickly, which leads to an entertaining listen.
2. Soft Glow
Five songs of the album have already been released as singles. The first of them on this album is Soft Glow. The guitar sounds partially dominate the vocals, which distracts slightly from listening to the story of the song as well. This also points the focus of the listener to key phrases like You are the one that shines. The song also comes with some shouting and other metal elements, so that it is rather versatile.
3. take.one.minute
Another single release by Love is Noise has already been the third track of the album, take.one.minute. The song comes with a lovely and catching sounds and is thus one of the highlights of the record.
4. Jawbreaker
Especially the brief Jawbreaker thereby creates a heavy, but also crisp message in the context of To Live In A Different Way. The song ends with a brutal, industrial-alike finale. The songwriting is really on point.
5. Evelyn
Evelyn song surprises with female vocals, which lead to a calm and nicely flowing sound. Some harder guitar sections create a heavy flavor in this rather slow and plushy listen.
6. It hurts to know you’re there
It hurts to know you’re there feels has a nice Radiohead touch in the melody. It is not as crisp and characteristic as other songs in this album though.
7. To live in a different way
The next song is the 4:24 minute title track. It does have a nice atmosphere, but similar to the predecessor, you just don’t get into it that easily like some of the previous songs offered. The song shows nice songwriting skills, but lacks a bit of character and also works as a rocking background melody.
8. Sunshine
Sunshine starts slowly. It does spread some melancholy at the beginning, but then becomes more present and melodic after some 45 seconds. I like the vocal style in this song as well as the nice mood changes within the track. Nonetheless, the song again lacks a bit of presence.
9. Anemoia
The ninth song of To Live In A Different Way is Anemoia. The song reminds of the ballad-alike style of Evelyn, coming with rather nicely flowing melodies. Here and there, the song drifts into folk music elements. The five minute track is wisely written and is entertaining. I like its dramatic plot.
10. Mist
Love is Noise strum their guitars gently at the beginning of Mist. Even though there is a bit of rock power, the song feels a bit of too good and fine in the context of the record. Seeing it as an individual track, I feel it is working rather well.
11. Ascending
The album closes with the six minute epic Ascending, the song starts slowly but then reaches its first climax after some two minutes. Again, the dramaturgy of the song works nicely, even though the track might feel a bit lengthy in the stanzas.

Love Is Noise – To Live In A Different Way – My View
With their debut album, Love Is Noise underline their songwriting skills. Even though To Live In A Different Way also comes with some lengthy and mousy moments, it is a good album. It definitely makes me look forward to how this band is developing in the future.
