It is already the second time, the Germany-based, but international folk duo Flora Falls is releasing a major set of songs. On 26th May 2023, they will share the EP Hidden From You with us. I already had a listen and share my thoughts with you.
Flora Falls – About The Artists
Flora Falls are a comparably young collaboration. The duo started working together, when they met at an Open Stage in Berlin, Germany, in 2019. Thereby, Flora Falls is featuring Australian Brea Robertson and Canadian Dominique Fricot. Their 2021 debut EP has been named Ankle Deep.
Flora Falls – Hidden From You – Track by Track
The five song EP lasts 19 minutes.
1. Hidden from You
The gentle beginning of Hidden from You, having some strumming acoustic guitar, intitially feels a bit of boring, almost stereotypical. However, when Brea Robertson is joining in with her high, almost angelic voice, the song becomes a beautiful touch. For the last some 90 seconds, the artists even even turn this song into a duet. I could imagine that their sound is feeling magical when they perform this one live on stage.
2. Winter
For the longest track of the EP, Winter, Flora Falls goes for a wider set of instruments. There are some keys, some gentle drumming and the guitar. However, what I really like more about this one compared to the first song is that the two artists work more collaboratively on the vocal side. This finally leads to a more “complete”, but also more atmospheric sound.
3. Escape
We don’t need to, we don’t need to escape
Everybody needs some time to process the pain
We don’t need to, we don’t need to escape
Everything we’re hiding from needs to be faced
The third song, Escape, is my favorite on the Hidden From You EP. The song has a beautiful balance of being gentle and feeling personal and intimate, but also having some energy and a message which is enjoyable to follow. Again, the duo does not need too many musical elements to tell their message. The bass is taking a nice, groovy role in here.
4. Space Between Us
Apart from Winter, Space between Us is the second song which Flora Falls already had shared with their fans before the album. The song is feeling very fragile again, with Robertson feeling to be slightly in a leading role. The continous bass drum feels to be a the heartbeat of the song.
5. Seasons
Modern music very often refuses to go for too much dynamic elements. The songs come with a very similar level of volume. This may be the key reason why the very quiet and slow Seasons is confusing me. I feel tempted to increase the volume and get back to the level of the other songs. But I guess that that’s not what the duo is expecting from the listener.

Here is the EP on Spotify:
Flora Falls – Hidden From You – My View
Flora Falls have recorded five nicely differently sounding song, which still share a common heartbeat, a common style. I really enjoyed listening to Hidden From You, even though I had some ups and downs with it. Would be cool to see these guys live on stage, indeed.
