  • Lovely, warm songs
  • Beautiful songwriting

The album Boy Made Out Of Stars is already the third major release I feature from Milow. After his 2022 album Nice To Meet You and the 2023 EP-release Great To Know You, I was looking forward to having a listen to this 21st February 2025 release. Here is my review.

Milow – Boy Made Out Of Stars – About The Artist

Milow, whose civil name Jonathan Ivo Gilles Vandenbroeck, was born on 14th July 1981 in Antwerp, Belgium. He grew up in the Flemish / Dutch speaking part of the country. All of his albums, starting from the 2006 debut album The Bigger Picture, at least made it to the Top 10 of the Flemish Belgian charts. With North and South (2011), he also spread his popularity to other countries, majorly Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Before that, he had a multi-platinum single with Ayo Technology (2008).

Milow – Boy Made Out Of Stars – Track by Track

The fifteen track album lasts 47 minutes.

1. One By One

Milow opens his 2025 album with this beautiful ballad, One By One. The previously released track is already an emotional and personal highlight of the record right at its beginning. Especially towards the end of the song, it makes you feel a lot of love and energy, leading to a beautiful listen.

2. Get Up And Go

Get Up And Go is significantly quicker and more rhythmic than the opener. This leads to a very pop-ish impression. The song spreads spring and summer vibes, but also comes with an uplifting character. Nice listen.

3. Family Tree

With Family Tree, the album continues in a nice folk-pop style. the chorus is striking and stays in your mind. The most surprising part of the song comes at its end, though. After Milow announces Come on, dad, sing with me, he indeed does so – in Flemish. You rarely have Milow tunes in his mother tongue.

4. Leave It Just Like This

The first notes of Leave It Just Like This feel dreaming and gentle. Even though the song gains more energy and also adds some fine drumming soon, it definitely keeps the angelic character. The comparably strong vocal presence of Nina Babet, who is part of Milow’s band, adds a lovely touch as well.

5. Dancing To Sad Songs

Dancing To Sad Songs – didn’t we all sometimes wish that we could do so. The heartwarming and positive signature of the album continues with this fifth track. Especially the nice groove by Dominik Krämer on the bass leads to a special listen.

6. Batman Sign

The arrangement of the song and the very personal and intimate songwriting turn this love song into another beautiful listen. Here and there, you cannot deny a certain level of kitsch in Milow’s songs. I don’t spoiler in which way Bruce Wayne’s alter ego is popping up in here, though – just give this country-folk alike song a listen by yourself.

7. Castaways (feat. Florence Arman)

For the seventh song of the album, Milow is supported by Austria-born, British artist Florence Arman. Again, the song feels simple and straight, but Milow turns it into a special listen. On top of that, the British-Belgian duet feels very special.

8. I’ve Been Expecting You

In this part of Boy Made Out Of Stars, there are three single releases in a row. The second one is I’ve Been Expecting You. The song is a beautiful ballad about family. Such a lovely write!

9. Tell Me Twice

Tell Me Twice is one of the first songs featured of this album. I already introduced it to you in my 24th May 2024 Songs of the Week. If you need a lifeline, you don’t have to tell me twice – love, family and friendship are the dominating topic of this record. And Milow does it in a beautiful manner.

10. Lost In The ‘90s

I’m rather a 1980’s person. Nonetheless, Lost In The ’90s is one of the songs I appreciate the most on this record. A lovely pop-singer-songwriter tracks with some nostalgic folk music sprinkles finally turn into a very fluent and melodic listen.

11. Boy Made Out Of Stars

The title track of Milow’s new album is hidden on the eleventh spot of it. Regardless of that, it leaves a mark. Not only due to its nice storytelling – the gentle melody with a bit of schmaltz somehow suits nice to this personal song.

12. Crazy For You

Crazy For You is another song you might already know from my Songs of the Week. I featured this song in my 11th October 2024. The song comes with happy vibes and has quite some sing-a-long potential. The warm, summery rhythm is a nice contrast to the current weather at my home as well.

13. Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa is a rather short, but also rather quick and rhythmic song. The strong strikes with its melody – especially the chorus and post-chorus stays in your mind. I just have to move to its rhythm. One of my favorites of this album.

14. Clear & Simple

Clear & Simple – this could also somehow be the sum-up of the style of Boy Made Out Of Stars. In the context of the album, though, it is rather a folk music-style track. Again, Milows songs are gentle, fine, not aggressive. You just have to smile and enjoy the warmth spread through the speakers.

15. Mama Aya

Are we there yet? Boy Made Out Of Stars closes with Mama Aya. The album finishes slowly, with backing harmonica tunes. Mama Aya, where would I be without you? The album closes with a wonderful homage about home and family. Thus, the song feels like the perfect close for this one.
