Flyctory.com Pros

  • Nice personal folk singer-songwriter album
  • Very nice storytelling

So far, I only featured Paul Holland in my Songs of the Week. I was impressed by his music and intense voice, when I ran into his song Clouds of Haze, which I presented in my 16th January 2026 episode of the new release series. On 22nd May 2026, Holland released his debut album Sunflower. I had a listen.

Paul Holland – About The Artist

Paul Holland is a GermanBritish singer-songwriter, who is living in Ulm, Southern Germany. He is combining elements of folk, jazz, rock and soul. His career started as a street and open stage artist. In 2023, he released his seven track debut EP Everything.

Paul Holland – Sunflower – Track by Track

The nine track album lasts 34 minutes.

1. Clouds Of Haze

The first song of the album is the one I featured in my Songs of the WeekClouds of Haze. It is a really nice one, combining folk and rock elements, adding some indie vibes to the sound as well. A nice opener.

2. Feels Right

Feels Right has been the last song released before the album. Paul Holland shared this song in early May 2026. It is slower and has a flavor of blues and jazz. Baby I’ve been all over town, when I say it I ain’t messing around, he states at the beginning of the chorus. A lovely singer-songwriter track, which comes with a very personal touch.

3. Marie

The third song is – obviously – about a lady. Marie, I wonder where you are and how you’ve been, Holland asks at the beginning. A very quiet and thoughtful track, which comes with slow lyrics. You feel being very close to the artist while you listen to his song. Nice.

4. Sunflower

The next song of the album is its title track. Sunflower starts similar as the predecessor, before more instruments are joining. It is a dreaming, melancholic, but also dramatic reflection with metaphoric lyrics.  This leads to another very intense experience.

5. Love Gone Wild

Love Gone Wild has been a single release in April 2026. The song is more rhythmic, without loosing the very reflecting and thoughtful touch. Towards the end of the song, it becomes more and more rocking.

6. Bloody Skies

The last four songs of Sunflowers are entirely unreleased tracks. Thereby, Bloody Skies takes a special role. While most of the songs on the record are roughly between three and three and a half minutes, this one is a seven minute epic. This leaves sufficient time for a dramatic plot with interesting instrumental twists. There are even elements of world music in it. The exposed properties of the sixth song turn it into one of the core tracks of the album.

Time gets lost between the stars
So it found its home
In between the stars, the ocean and the shore
Just one more minute, get back to source
Open up the doors

7. Take Me As You Think I’ll Be

After this epic, the seventh song (three minutes duration) somehow feels short. Again, Paul Holland does not need much more than his voice and some guitar chords to catch the listener.

When you come to me
Take me as you think I’ll be
There are changes on the sea
But is there change in you and me

8. Turning Tides

If we ever make it through this, I’ll see you on the other side – the eighth song is full of struggle, but also shares some hope and optimism. Turning Tides is a beautiful melodic track about a relationship in a difficult situation. It’s one of my favorites on Sunflower.

9. June

June is closing Holland’s debut record. It is another calm song with clear singer-songwriter vibes. Thus, it feels like a very characteristic one and a good fit.

Paul Holland – Sunflower – My View

Sunflower is a beautiful singer-songwriter album. Paul Holland tells his stories without needing too posh musical elements. The beauty is definitely driven by the atmosphere and storytelling. If you like folk music with a nice touch, his debut is definitely worth a listen.

Favorite Song: Turning Tides
