Flyctory.com Pros

  • Beautiful, very personal songs
  • Good stories

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Just four songs / 13 minutes

After I ran into her song akureyri and made it head one of my Songs Of The Week episodes, I was really looking forward to listen to more songs by Icelandic artist Arny Margret. On 25th February 2022, she is releasing her debut EP intertwined. Glad to have a listen to it.

Arny Margret – About The Artist

Arny Margret is a 20 year old Icelandic artist from Isafjordur in the West Fjords. She is doing folk music. Even despite writing songs for some years already, her breakthrough felt to be her performance at the Icelandic Airwaves Festival 2021 in Reykjavik.

Arny Margret – intertwined – Track by Track

The four track EP lasts 13 minutes.

1. intertwined

The opener and title track already sets the direction of these four songs: intimate, quiet atmosphere, which is fully concentrating on lyrics and a few guitar chords. The song has been written reflecting about a time Margret lived in Denmark. Beautiful way of putting emotions into words and melodies.

2. akureyri

Even though, just by the title, it makes me connect to wonderful memories I had in the Northern Icelandic city of Akureyri, the track is having a rather negative topic. Margret describes, how she is accepting views of others on her, even though those people just want to treat her badly. I know I’m weak, when you say that I am weak. A track many people are able to relate to, I guess.

3. in tall buildings

The credits of this song name the Icelandic artist (at least on the promotion platform I was able to listen to the song before), but in fact, the young West Fjord lady is covering John Hartford’s country music classic here. The song is doing so good under this re-invention.

4. sometime

The EP closes after just four songs. The song connects to the in tall buildings cover right before. Magical one.

Arny Margret – intertwined – My View

I was really curious about intertwined (I did not even listen to the title track before) – and Arny Margret did not disappoint me at all. She is doing lovely, fragile, very emotional track. Listening to this kind of music digitally or on CD is of course always just spreading parts of the magic compared to when the Icelandic presents these songs on stage. It’s just four songs so far, an album feels being recorded currently, so that I hope I can have that experience soon.
