A short, three hour transfer from Phoenix (PHX) to Amsterdam (AMS) gave my wife and I an international transfer in Calgary (YYC). Before our KLM flight to the Dutch capital, we checked out the Aspire Lounge at the (international) D Gates. Please note that there is also an Aspire lounge at the Canadian airport in the Transborder area, i.e. for flights from Calgary into the United States.

Aspire Lounge Calgary Airport (YYC) – Location & Access

The lounge is located at the (international) D Gate area of Calgary Airport (YYC). The access is at the large plaza, from where you go to the gates. The transfer from D-Gates to the Transborder E-Gates is close to the lounge. The lounge itself is located a floor above the passenger area.

The lounge opens daily from 6:30 to 20:30. It collaborates with multiple airlines, who offer international departures from that part of the airport, including Air France / KLM. Alternatively, the lounge also collaborates with lounge pass providers like PriorityPass, Lounge Key or Dragonpass. You can also buy in into the Aspire Lounge.

Aspire Lounge Calgary Airport (YYC) – Atmosphere

The Aspire Lounge Calgary Airport (YYC) is majorly a long rectangular place. However, smart dividers add some privacy and also split the place into different sections. The front of the lounge, after the reception desk, as a long barstool work desk. In other parts there are more comfortable options. The rear even features the opportunity to lay down, relax and watch TV, if desired. There is also a section with four tables at a larger screen, which you can use for dining or for a brief business meeting (if privacy is allowing for that – there is no way to block the view to the screen for other passengers. A key feature of the lounge is the large window overlooking the passenger area, which adds a really nice touch. Especially the restaurant style section does lack power outlets, while most other parts of the lounge are quite well in that regard.

Aspire Lounge Calgary Airport (YYC) – Food & Drink

The buffet of the lounge is located centrally. We have arrived there briefly after noon. The bread selection is quite nice. There are warm and healthy options as well as some snacks. The selection is rather on the basic side, though. The food provided was fine, but not overwhelming.

The selection of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, is quite in line with that. There are also some sorts of beer and spirits, but in a rather limited way.

Aspire Lounge Calgary Airport (YYC) – Services

WiFi in the Aspire Lounge is provided by the airport and works well. The staff in the lounge was rather… Defensive. Also in regards of cleaning the table etc., they could have done better. I would not rate them too bad as well, though. The lounge does have toilets and showers. However, the urinal of the men’s toilet was broken during my visit, so that the capacity of the bathroom was one toilet there. The level of cleaning was not ideal.

Aspire Lounge Calgary Airport (YYC) – My View

I did enjoy the quick transfer in Calgary (YYC) – and the Aspire Lounge was a good part of it. The design is nice and smart. Food and services are not in line with that. Nonetheless, it is a nice location. Enjoying the view over the gate area and having a drink is a nice, relaxing experience.
