Flyctory.com Pros

  • Straight, very good storytelling
  • Nice blend of different genres

Next month, Seiler und Speer are facing one of the highlights of their career. At their only show in Austria in 2025, they will play at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna in July 2025. The national soccer stadium comes with an amazing line-up. I featured the show in my Summer Festivals 2025 posting. Before that, they release a new album. Hödn will be released on 13th June 2025. Here is my review.

Seiler und Speer – About The Artists

Seiler und Speer are and Austrian pop and rock band. The two members are comedian and actor Christopher Seiler (born 1987) and movie producer Bernhard Speer (1993). They started to collaborate when they met at a set of a short movies named Schichtwechsel. The project started rather as a fun proect. However, their 2015 debut album Ham hummst was extremely successful. It topped the Austrian charts and is nowadays a six time platinum record in their home country. Two more studio albums followed, Und weida? in 2017 and Für immer in 2019. Both topped the charts and at least got a platinum record.

Despite they are singing in Austrian German, their music became more and more popular in the neighboring countries as well. Für immer peaked at the 14th spot in Germany, for example, and also made it into the Swiss charts. They also tour in these countries very successfully.

Seiler und Speer – Hödn – Track by Track

The eleven track album lasts 43 minute.

1. Mama Leone

Mama Leone sounds Italian, the opener is in (Austrian) Germany, though. It starts with a harmonic melody. The stanzas are rather in a spoken word style. The chorus is almost hymnic.

2. In ana aundan Sproch

The title of the second song translates to “In another language” – and indeed this song comes with some Italian lyrics. In the chorus, the arrangement is orchestral and thus leads to a very impressing track. The feature single of Hödn is definitely one of the key songs of album.

3. Hödn

Another song already released before the album is its title track. Seiler und Speer are praising Hödn (“Heroes”). The cool and groovy style of the stanzas changes into a lot of energy in the pre-chorus and chorus. Another intense and hymnic experience which is stating that everybody has been a hero.

4. Tot sei wäre mir lieber

The fourth message comes with a deeper and sad message. Tot sei wäre mir lieber translates to “I would prefer to be dead”. However, the song is also praising life and that it could be much better when people would understand each other and care more. The strumming guitar leads to folk music vibes.

5. Irgendwie

The fifth track is about a farewell. Nonetheless, the song also states that at some given time and place, you will meet each other again. Irgendwie is an intense rock music ballad by Seiler und Speer. I absolutely enjoy it.

6. Red mit an Aundan

“Talk with somebody else” is the translated title of the sixth track. The speedy and angry rocker is about being superficial, having prejudices against other people. A really good one.

7. Waun da Wind gehjt

The straight, social-critic style of Hödn continues with Waun da Wind gehjt. The song is a slower pop song which presents some scattered rock elements. The song is about that hurting each other can last much longer than you might think at first sight.

8. A Achterl

A Achterl majorly combines rock and hip hop styles. However, the bridge is calm and very melodic. Nonetheless, the song spreads a lot of energy and power. Seiler und Speer send straight messages in their songs – A Achterl is a great example for that.

9. Wean

I love Falco – and the powerful style of this Seiler und Speer strongly reminds me of the big Austrian artist. The lyrics, however, quote and work with a song by Rainhard Fendrich. The quote Haben sie Wien schon bei Nacht geseh’n (“Have you seen Vienna at night”) is the title of his big 1985 hit.

10. Die letzte Maut

The penultimate song starts with a narrative style stanzas. The chorus, however, is a slow, flowing one. The contrast leads to a catching four minute experience.

11. Bis uns daschlogn

Hödn closes with its most epic song. Bis uns daschlogn is almost six minutes long. The title translates to “Until they slay us”. The track is thereby encouraging to live your life and stay with your values and virtues. A great finale of the album.

Seiler und Speer – Hödn – My View

Seiler und Speer present a really good album. They sent straight messages without feeling plane or narrow hearted. Their sound between pop, rock and hip hop is entertaining. Thus, I really liked listening to their eleven song set about “Heroes”.

Favorite Song: Tot sei wäre mir lieber

Seiler und Speer – Vienna Open Air 2025

The Austrian music legends Seiler und Speer play one show only in Austria in 2025. This stadium open air is definitely worth the travel. They are joined by two additional legendary domestic music acts, Wolfgang Ambros and the Opus Band, the popular Austrian comedian and musician Thomas Stipsits. Another great support act is German comedian and musician Otto Waalkes with his Friesenjungs band. This one just has to be a great day.
