Flyctory.com Pros

  • Fine-sized room, very good value for money
  • Very good breakfast
  • Very nice location, close to Reeperbahn

The reason why I traveled to Hamburg in March was a German show of my favorite musical Rock of Ages in nearby Pinneberg. However, German rail changed my morning rail to Hamburg to a one hour earlier time. I decided to travel the evening before and add a night to my intended stay at the IntercityHotel Hamburg Altona. Due to its nice location and the great price, I opted for the Premier Inn Hamburg City Millerntor.

Premier Inn Hamburg City Millerntor – Location

First of all, you need to be aware that along the same street (Simon-von-Utrecht-Strasse), Premier Inn operates two adjacent hotels. They do belong together, but book separately. The Premier Inn Hamburg St. Pauli is the first one when you arrive from Underground station St. Pauli, the second one is the hotel I review in here. The Hamburg City Millerntor hotel feels smaller than its sister hotel. There is also a good bus connection. You may come by car (there is a parking garage, see below), but in general, I would recommend to opt for public transport – the connections are really good.

The key attraction around the hotel is, of course, the Reeperbahn, Hamburg’s famous party and red light district area. It also features some key sights like the Panoptikum or the male-visitors-only Herbertstrasse. The Premier Inn is also perfectly located to the Millerntor-Stadion, home of the soccer club FC St. Pauli. I visited the club’s museum and did a stadium tour during my stay.

Premier Inn Hamburg City Millerntor – Room

I had one night in late March 2022, from Thursday to Friday. The flexible rate, including breakfast and city tax, was 64.57 EUR. After my recent stay at the Premier Inn Cologne City South, I was a bit afraid of the room size – but the Hamburg place did better. I had a proper work desk and even an additional armchair – and also in all other regards, my room felt more comfortable. I more and more enjoy the purple light behind the bed. The coffee/tea making stuff bothered me a bit, but there were some opportunities to place the items to have more space to work. One amazing feature was the massive availability of power outlets throughout the room.

The bathroom was functional and gave sufficient space to leave my toiletry stuff as well. The shower was spacious enough to suit my needs, everything was really clean. Dispensers were mounted  to provide soap and a shower gel/shampoo mix. The last picture shows the view from the room – not the signature feature of the Premier Inn Hamburg City Millerntor, but not bothering in any way as well.

Premier Inn Hamburg City Millerntor – Breakfast

As the Premier Inn does not serve any meals other than than breakfast, they called the room Speisesaal, “Refectory”. I really liked the room with a cozy design and a buffet at one edge of the room. There were quite a lot of item and also the signposting was superior to the Premier Inn in Cologne I stayed in before. They also marked dishes which are vegan/vegetarian and had items for people with other dietary requirement, like gluten-free.

Premier Inn Hamburg City Millerntor – Service

The check-in was a bit of bothering. I arrived at the hotel at about 22:00 hrs. The reception staff also drives the bar, so that I had wait a bit – which is fine. However, I did not like that they interrupted the check-in process to draw a beer for one of the guests. There is no gym or similar in the hotel. They do have a parking garage (with a fee), though. Premier Inn generally has a standard WiFi and a premium one. Even though I was reviewing music in the morning and had a lot of traffic, the quality of the standard one has been absolutely sufficient for me.

Premier Inn Hamburg City Millerntor – My View

Okay, that’s a hot candidate for my Budget Hotel of the Year in 2022. They Northern Germans provide a really nice place in an almost perfect location (some ten minutes underground from the main station). Apart from the check-in issues, my night was just as good as I imagine a nicely priced hotel to be alike. Thumbs up … or in Flyctory.com: definitely a Top Pick!
