Despite they are looking back to a quarter of a century of band history, Thirty Seconds To Mars are just about to release their sixth studio album. On 15th September 2023, they publish eleven songs under the lengthy title It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day. I already had a listen and share my thoughts with you.

Thirty Seconds To Mars – About The Artists

Thirty Second To Mars (sometimes also 30STM) are an alternative rock band, which has already been founded in 1998 in Los Angeles. The two founding members are the two brothers Jared (lead vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards) and Shannon Leto (drums, percussion). They worked with different additional band members, but finally fell back to that duo setup. Of course, they also use touring musicians on stage. The first album release of the siblings was self-titled and did not work out that well on initial releases. Nonetheless, 30 Seconds to Mars nowadays has a global sale of two millions. However, the two single releases The Kill and From Yesterday of their sophomore album A Beautiful Lie boosted the career of the US-Americans and turned them into a globally successful act.

The success kept on. The third album This Is War (2009) had similar sales volume and again had multiple golden and platinum records in different markets. The duo’s last release has been America, which topped the Austrian and German charts and was a Top 5 one in numerous charts.

Thirty Seconds to Mars – It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day – Track by Track

The eleven song album lasts 33 minutes.

1. Stuck

Four songs have already been released of the album so far – and they are also the first listens of it. Stuck feels pop-ish and not that present in the stanzas. The stomping rhythm coming up in the chorus, thoughts, adds quite some character to the opener. Overall, the song feels surprisingly simple, but it is does have a catch.

2. Life Is Beautiful

In the second track, the brothers state that Life Is Beautiful. Again, rather the massive parts make the song work out well. However, in this song the contrast between the different sections of the songs does lead to a nice element as well.

3. Seasons

Out of the for single releases, the melodic and gentle Seasons is my favorite. I do have to admit that I feel that the siblings sound like a boy band in here. However, the song beautifully stays in your mind.

4. Get Up Kid

Get Up Kid continues with the rather slow and emotional style of the song before. This fourth song, however, is not as present and catchy as Seasons. The fade-out of Get Up Kid at least adds some character to the song

5. Love These Days

The clear split in the album also means that all songs starting with Love These Days are new to you. The song has some slow Latin music and summer vibes. Unfortunately, Twenty Seconds To Mars again give you a too easy time in not giving your full attention to the song. Bad luck, the vocal part is not that bad.

6. World On Fire

The energy of and the keyboard lines of World On Fire make me a bit happier again. Still not the quality of songs this band used to deliver in the past.

7. 71

71 is a great song to explain why I struggle with It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day. I feel that the song as such is not bad at all. But the band stripped it down. It is lacking power and intensity, especially in its first half. The final

8. Never Not Love You

Never Not Love You is one of my favorites. The song is starting like a ballad, but later also comes with very intense parts. The vocal part is on point as well. This leads to a very atmospheric, intense atmosphere.

9. Midnight Prayer

In this part, the album is definitely having better songs. The rhythm leads to a very intense pop feeling and the US Americans put some intense listen on top of it. That one is working out nicely.

10. Lost These Days

The second last song starts like a folk music-alike ballad. However, here and there it features sprinkles of distorted vocals and later also presents some rock elements. Not too bad.

11. Avalanche

The closing song Avalanche is quite in line with the openers of the 30STM 2023 album. Not their masterpiece, but a signature I would definitely expect in this album.

Thirty Seconds to Mars – It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day – My View

I unfortunately have to state: I would have expected more than that. It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day comes with too many weaker spots. There are too few of these Thirty Seconds To Mars songs, which stay in your mind and give you a message. Bad luck. Here and there, the great potential of this duo pops up in their 2023 release.
