During my October 2023 trip to Myrtle Beach, I wanted to explore the city and surroundings and thus went for a rental. The best offer I found for a rental right after arrival at Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) was a one handled by the Avis station there. Here is my review.
Avis Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) – The Rental
The rental was a two day rental for a standard size car. I did book the car not at Avis directly, but via a broker, Auto Europe. That contract also included full service insurance. The total price for a rental from Sunday to Tuesday, roughly at noon each, was 121.10 EUR, pre-paid at reservation.
Avis Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) – Location & Office
Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) has a separate rental car building. It is located right opposite the main terminal building. As typical, Avis and Budget share the same counter (but nonetheless run on different accounts). The car rental parking, which also includes the return facilities is right next to it. Quite a lot of the parking lot are covered with a sunroof, which is really convenient.
Avis Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) – Receiving The Car
Despite the rental was a broker booking, I received rental information including online check-in requests from Avis by e-mail before the rental. This would have been really convenient, if the process worked out correctly. Unfortunately, I could not complete the online check-in at the point where my (German) credit card was requested for a deposit.
The processes at the desk in Myrtle Beach worked out smoothly, though. I had to wait behind two more customers in line, but then the process was really quick. The collaboration of Auto Europe and Avis feels to be very well organized, so that the customer manager is not trying to sell you additional (unnecessary) insurance or similar additional items. The only key requests have been the fuel options, my hotel in town and if I like to have an upgrade. The rental process just took a few minutes and the walk to the car was short and convenient as well.
Avis Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) – Returning The Car
Returning the car was really easy as well. Myrtle Beach (MYR) is a very handy airport, the directions are given very well. In practice, you return the car just one line next to where you received it. The inspection of the car went very smoothly as well. The staff was friendly, so that I already checked in for my flight to New York (JFK) just a few minutes after I in fact arrived onsite the airport grounds.
The Car – Toyota Corolla
I received the car category I booked. The Toyota had less than 2,000 miles and has been absolutely fit for purpose. I had a major and a medium suitcase, which easily fit into the trunk. One thing I really liked is that the car features Sirius XM satellite radio – a nice opportunity with Ozzy’s Boneyard and listen to some new country music tunes.
Avis Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) – My View
The rental with Avis was very smooth. I was impressed by the good data handling between Auto Europe and the North American rental station. Bad luck that the online check-in did not work. But overall, all services were very good and the Toyota was in excellent condition. Thanks!
