Let’s Praise Modern German Country Music – My Artist Overview

I recently forgot a name of a German country artist and had to google it. I started typically by looking for a German country singer in Google. I was quite shocked that there were so few hits that I could really use for my purpose. Even though country music is the fastest (relatively) growing genre in Germany, you rater run into artists doing very old-fashioned, traditional country songs in German. Time to change that – and praise the artists, who are doing modern, contemporary country music. I’m sure I missed quite a few of them, so I might update this posting from time to time. The post features artists who perform in German and English. I also created a Spotify playlist of their best songs (see below).

The order of the artists is alphabetical, by the way the artist name themselves (i.e. typically by first name or band name). I feature my favorite song of each artist in the designated section.

Alina Sebastian

Currently, Alina Sebastian is one of the most promising modern country acts from Germany. She is about to tour in spring 2025 with her charming music style and nice songwriting. I am sure being able to feature her very soon.

AnnDoka

Ann Doka is a German country-pop artist singer-songwriter from Northern Germany. I featured her in an interview as well as in an album review already. Ann Doka also had some really interesting duets in her career so far. A very interesting act, who is located near Bremen.

Chris Colter

Chris Colter, whose civil name is Christian Koller, is releasing music since 1999 and was part of multiple bands. So far, I have featured one album by the artist from Regensburg in Southern Germany.

DanaMaria

DanaMaria is a young country artist from Frankfurt, who is having close relations to the Texas music scene. I really liked her debut album Desert Diamond. Hope there will be new songs by the lovely singer-songwriter soon.

Danny Myler

Danny Myler is a country rock artist from Cologne. She is active since 2015 and released her debut album 04:00 a.m. in 2023. On tour, she is also sometimes on stage with her band, The Midnight Buffalos.

Dennis Adamus

Dennis Adamus had his first major steps into the music scene as guitarist of Jimmy Cornett. His solo music is a lovely modern country sound. The singer-songwriter is based in Hamburg.

Ellie Benn

Ellie Benn is a singer-songwriter, who had her first steps as a street musician in her home town Nuremberg. She has released two EPs so far, Feels Like Home (2022) and Sounds Familiar (2024).

Frances Darling

With my interview in September and her debut EP review in early 2025, I recently had quite some focus on Frances Darling. The young artist is German and US-American and also has Indian roots. She is nowadays living in Berlin, pursuing her music career. I like her style, which reminds of Kacey Musgraves.

Henriette

Even though I haven’t heard any more recent releases, she is definitely one of the most talented country music acts in the country. She calls her music style Cinematic Indie Folk, but in fact it has quite some modern country music elements as well. Nowadays, Henriette is also a musical actor.

Jack McBannon

Jack McBannon is the alter ego of Thorsten Willer. He is based in Haan near Dusseldorf and doing blues and country music. His debut album called The Only Way is dated as of 2008 already. In this period, he still toured and recorder as Willer. Since 2020, he uses his new artist name.

Jill Fisher

There is only one song on Spotify by Jill Fisher currently – which is a cover of the German Eurovision Song Contest song No, No, Never. The country-rock lady from Koblenz is rather actively touring. Unfortunately, I never made it to one of her shows.

Jolina Carl

Jolina Carl is a singer-songwriter from the Greater Cologne area. Her music moves between country-schlager and modern country sounds. Thereby, she released music in German as well as in English.

Joshville

Joshville from the Rheinland region is not only successful as an artist, but also as a producer. For example, he produced numerous tracks with Linda Feller. Nowadays, Joshua rather heads into the schlager-country direction, but especially his earlier works have a nice modern country touch.

More Than Words

The patchwork band of Stefanie Hertel, her daughter Johanna Mross and her husband are doing music since 2019. Hertel became famous in the schlager and traditional folk music genre. I really like their sound and their attitude towards modern country music. They rather frequently toured with Bonnie Tyler in the past.

Nik Wallner

Especially in the early 2020’s, Nik Wallner felt to be the perfect modern country musician from Germany. good, catchy lyrics and a nice style are the key characteristics of the Southern German artists, who is part of the Flyctory.com Featured Artists. He is majorly stepping on Southern German stages currently – but I hope to be able to feature some more music from him soon.

pez

pez is the artist name of Peter Geyer, who lives close to the Bavarian-Czech border. His music has a really nice touch – hope to have more of him soon.

Sascha Salvati

Sascha Salvati is a former winner of the German Popstars TV talent show. His concerts feature a mixture of originals and covers of modern classics. With that, the Ruhrgebiet artist is one of the most prominent acts in the German modern country music scene.

Scarlett Egan

Scarlett Egan is a special artist on my list. She is German, but is living in Nashville. I ran into her in the legendary The Listening Room. A great and promising artist – you might meet her in the amazing music venue just steps away from the strip.

T.G. Copperfield

T.G. Copperfield is another artist from Bavaria. He is doing a mixture of different Americana genres. His music leans into blues-rock, but quite some of his songs also have a clear country music touch. T.G. Copperfield releases music since 2016 and is a member of the band 3 Dayz Whizkey.

The BossHoss

The BossHoss is a band from Berlin, already founded in 2004 by Alec Völkel and Sascha Vollmer. They do country rock, but also rock songs. The BossHoss is likely the only German country music act, which is really well-known and popular throughout the whole country. They tour Germany’s largest arenas and festivals.

The Cumberland River Project

The Cumberland River Project is the most frequently featured country act from Germany on this website. He even made it to the tenth spot in the Most Frequently Featured Artists of my Country Music Playlists. Thereby, Frank from Hagen in the Ruhrgebiet is rather the smart songwriter behind the songs. He is typically working with different artists for his recordings. Here and there, his project also touches other Americana genres and pop.
