I had a couple of overnights in Frankfurt during 2020, some of them motivated by rail trip connections. In October 2020, however, I went to Frankfurt for some sightseeing and selected the Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt City Centre, which is also quite conveniently located to Frankfurt Main Station. Here is my review.

 

HGI Frankfurt City Centre – Location

The Hilton Garden Inn is located close to the intersection of Taunusstraße and Weserstraße, which is really right in the heart of Frankfurts Bahnhofsviertel, the area next to the main station. The main station, which is a some 600 meter walk away from the hotel also works as a travel hub for national and international rail connection, for local traffic and to connect to Frankfurt airport. For some local destinations, it is favorable to walk to Willy-Brandt-Platz, which is roughly the same distance. The hotel offers a parking garage, if you come by car.

The Bahnhofsviertel is highly divisive: on the one hand, it offers a lot of bars, snack bars and restaurants – some of the spots offer really lovely and low priced food. On the other hand, you can hardly walk from the main station to the hotel without crossing the red light district of the city. There was no prostitution in front of the hotel during my stay, though – this is closer to the station. I overall feel not too unsafe around – the place is central, but definitely not one of Frankfurt’s finest spots.

 

HGI Frankfurt City Centre – Room

I booked a standard room for a flexible room rate of 81.20 Euro. Breakfast was not included in my rate, but included in my stay as a Hilton Honors Diamond member. I have been upgraded to a beautiful Superior Room. The room was very quietly located at the end of the hallway. I really loved the design, the room felt modern and also featured a large work desk (which I forgot to picture). There was a lot of space for suitcases and other stuff as well.

The bathtub bathroom was a nice one as well. The closet was electric – I even feel that it was one of these fancy Japanese-style loos with the controls removed due to hygienic reasons. No surprises on the amenity side – they got the items you would expect, very nice!

HGI Frankfurt City Centre – Breakfast

Breakfast was served in the restaurant, which was one floor down from the nice lobby / reception area. The restaurant itself felt quite cozy and they also implemented one-way routes along the buffet due to the pandemic – but unfortunately, that was not fully working. The breakfast itself was really nice with a lot of variety and even ready-made egg dishes. The waffle dough, however, gave me a strong longing for a HGI stay in the United States.

As said, the lobby area of the hotel was really nice. They operated a bar during my visit, which was really popular among the guests.

 

HGI Frankfurt City Centre – Service

Checking in at the Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt City Centre has been really professional and friendly. In general, I really liked the helpfful staff. Working during the night, I however had quite some trouble with the WiFi, which had a couple of breakdowns during the late hours.

 

HGI Frankfurt City Centre – My View

Finally, if you like that place or not is heavily dependent on how well you deal with the fact, that on the way to the hotel you likely run into drug-addicted ladies, who offer you physical services. I personally don’t care too much and enjoyed the comparably short routes to the train station and the variety of food available. There is no doubt about the hotel itself – they place is driven excellently. The HGI feels modern and well / efficiently driven. I definitely like it!
