Maybe it is because I had to do some long evenings to prepare my Media Review coverage for the weekend of 13th September 2024. I just ran into the new EP by the German band Digital Carbs and felt like rocking with them. Here is my review of Floods.
Digital Carbs – About The Artists
The Munich band Digital Carbs has originally been planned as a solo project of Johannes Rest. The bassist and singer of Digital Carbs wrote multiple songs from 2018, but then decided to go for a band. His bandmates re Konrad Diesch (drums), Markus Willy Willmann and Daniel Bautista (both guitar). In April 2022, the band released their debut album We Are Taking It Slowly. Their music includes elements of indie-rock alt-rock and progressive parts.
Digital Carbs – Floods – Track by Track
In the version I got (and on which I based the review on is a six track EP lasting 27 minutes. The Spotify version excludes the two radio edits and lasts 19 minutes.
1. Telescope (Radio Edit)
The EP is rather a four song one in fact, as there two double-features of songs. Floods opens with the radio edit of Telescope, before it moves to the full version. The opening track is just below four minutes. Maybe a bit too long for mainstream radio stations – but the alternative rock style is rather a choice for rock music radio stations anyway. The present voice of Johannes Rest and the work on the guitars are the key elements which turn this song into a really nice one.
2. Telescope
As said, the second track of the album is the full album / EP version. The 90 second add-on lead to some additional melodic and structural elements. The song definitely can stand this add-on. But not too surprisingly, there is not too much of a difference between the two ones. Thus, you likely will go for your favorite duration if you enjoy the opener.
3. Velcro
Velcro starts slowly, but then releases its full rock power with the chorus. This leads to a nice plot and an entertaining listen. A really nice listen.
4. What If (Radio Edit)
The second double feature on Floods is What If, which again kicks off with a some four minute radio version. The song has slight progressive elements, but especially has a nice alternative and melancholic touch. The voice of Johannes Rest presents it perfectly.
5. What If
The add-on to the full version of What If is a bit longer compared to the opening double feature. This time, I definitely prefer this almost six minute experience. The dramatic and melancholic touch of the song is simply more intense in here.
6. Lost At The Party
Lost At The Party is the slowest song on the Digital Carbs EP. The strumming acoustic-style guitar works nicely in this atmosphere. A good fade out.

Digital Carbs – Floods – My View
I really enjoyed listening to Floods. However, you just have to criticize that there are in fact just four songs, one of them being unreleased If you haven’t been in touch with the Southern German band (and thus have four new listens personally, you will still have a good time with this release.
