German Under 15 Floorball Nationals – Group A Matches (5th July 2025)

I really like the German floorball post-season. First of all, there is the Street Floorball Tour, illustrating the sports to many people in the centers of German cities. And then, there are the German championships in a variety of age groups and playing styles. On 4th July 2025, I headed to Bremen to cover one of these events. From Saturday  5th July 2025 six teams were battling for the German Championships in the Under 15 category on the large field. The event was hosted by Bremen’s traditional TV Eiche Horn, who also competed in Group A of the round-robin group matches on the first day. Here is my review of the group matches on that first tournament day at Sportzentrum Ronzelenstrasse in Bremen.

This posting comes with a section of 542 major size pictures in a dedicated event section of the sports galleries

The Venue – Sportzentrum Ronzelenstrasse

The Sportzentrum Ronzelenstrasse is a huge sports center in Bremen, having a total of six large fields on two levels. From city center, you can take the tram to Horner Kirche (line 4, N4, 1E, 6E). Multiple buses stop at that station as well. However, the walking distance is some 600m, so that I decided not to use public transport for the trip from the hotel to the venue with the heavy camera equipment.

German Under 15 Floorball Nationals – Group A Matches

The matches of the first day started at 9:30 with the Floorball Mainz vs. SC DHfK Leipzig duel. Match time at the German Under 15 Nationals are 3×15 minutes (semi-effective). In Under 15, girls are allowed as well (there is a specific Girls’ Nationals for Under 15 on the small field as well).

Floorball Mainz – SC DHfK Leipzig 8-7 SD (4-3, 1-3, 2-1, 1-x)

The first match already started with a lot of offense. Leipzig took the early lead, but Mainz changed it to an intermediate score of 4-2. Both teams had some really nice snipers in their team, so Finley Hirsch’s (Leipzig) third goal lead to the first intermission score of 4-3. The second period was significantly less structured and more hectic. This lead to more room for profiting from the individual strengths of players – a discipline in which the DHfK felt to be superior. Furthermore, they took profit of the obvious Mainz defensive weak spots. After 30 minutes, they were in the lead with an intermediate 6-5 score in favor of the Leipzig team.

The third period was much better again, also because both defensive lines set up their play significantly better. Mainz had the better start wit two goals, bringing back the lead to the Rheinland-Pfalz team. However, Leipzig managed to tie the score with three minutes left on the play. The score stayed at 7-7 until the “final” siren, so that the very first match of Group A already had an overtime decision. Mainz’ Tim Oschmann did not feel like having a too long thrill in that. Just after eight seconds, he scored from the distance and thus gave his team the valuable extra point.

TV Eiche Horn Bremen – Floorball Mainz 4-7 (2-1, 0-2, 2-4)

In the third match of the day, the hosts stepped in the rink as well. Both teams followed a rather strategic and defensive approach, so that the ball made it significantly less into the net than in the high scoring matches before. TV Eiche Horn was more effective in the first fifteen minutes and lead by 2-1. In the second period, Mainz was very effective in preventing Bremen to have scoring opportunities. Thus, they deserved to take the lead – the score after 30 minutes was 2-3.

However, DHfK Leipzig had illustrated the Mainz weakness in defense – and Bremen pursued to take advantage of that. In the first half of the third period, they found the gaps in the opponents’ defense and scored twice – the lead was back to the Northern Germans. However, the Mainz team time-out consolidated their game again. After two Mainz goals, one by a wrap around, Bremen failed to put pressure on the Mainz defense. Finally, two more goals lead to a final score of 4-7, with which Mainz advanced into the semifinals as winner of Group A.

SC DHfK Leipzig – TV Eiche Horn Bremen 4-2 (1-1, 1-0, 2-1)

The last match in Group A was the showdown for the second semifinal spot in Group A. Leipzig felt a bit more agile and had more chances, but Bremen had a good defense and thus deserved a tied score after 15 minutes. The second period went similarly. Finally, Leipzig broke the wall created by Eiche’s netminder Frederik Stüble and had a one goal lead after the second period.

There was hope for the hosts early in the third period, when Justus Nagel tied the score in the 32nd minute. However, Leipzig had a quick and effective answer, scoring twice within seventeen seconds and thus now had a comfortable two goal lead. Unfortunately, Stüble stayed the focus player on the Bremen side – which also meant that even without goalie, Eiche Horn just could not threaten Leipzig’s goal anymore. Thus, SC DHfK Leipzig absolutely deserved the victory and the qualification to the semifinals.
