Right after visiting the Tennis Hall of Fame Open, I spent the fourth night of my Weird Al Yankovic & Grass Court Tennis 2019 trip in Greater Providence. I just tried to find a reasonable overnight in the Newport, RI, area before driving back to JFK on the fifth and final day in the United States. Having a preference for Hilton Hotels, I chose the Hampton Inn & Suites at Providence / Warwick Airport.
Hampton Providence / Warwick Airport – Location
The hotel is located right at T.F. Green Airport / Providence Airport, which is located in the city of Warwick, South of Rhode Islands capital. From some of the rooms and the floors, you have a view to the runway and some of the building. A bridge connecting the airport with parking lots is closeby.
Post Road, where the hotel is located is dominated by airport services – majorly logistics companies and hotels. Surprisingly, it was not too easy to find food in close proximity of the hotel. I especially liked the architecture of the hotel with some green areas on their premises.
Hampton Providence / Warwick Airport – Room
For the final night of my trip, I booed a King Boardroom Suite. There were really two separate rooms, an entrance area with living room and a table to eat as well as the sleeping room. The sleeping room felt a bit compact, but the eating and living room had a very nice size. There were kitchen facilities like a sink, but no cooking facilities, not even a microwave oven. At reservation, I also did not get that the room was lacking a work desk. I had to work at the dinner table, which was fine for the short-term stay, but bothering for longer durations. Of course the dinner table also did not have work desk equipment like lamps. The room price including tax for one night was 165 USD.
I unfortunately was not too convinced of the bathroom quality. The most eye-catching deficit were hand the towel rack boards. The top one was already broken out of the wall and I was not sure how fix the middle one still was – look at the angel. The bathroom layout with the sink between the beds and the bathtub and toilet was quite nice. Unfortunately, a lack of exact house keeping gave me too many physical details about the people staying in the room before. Especially for a suite room, this area was not pleasing.
Hampton Providence / Warwick Airport – Breakfast
The Hampton breakfasts are typically quite in line throughout the whole branch. Nevertheless, I liked the hotel performance in Providence / Warwick. The breakfast room was a nice design and even had a small bar for the evenings. The buffet in a separate room was nicely set up as well. The staff had some problems to refill the items, but overall, I liked my start of the day in the hotel.
Hampton Providence / Warwick Airport – Services
There were some sports teams in the hotel during my stay. Thus, the nice but compact gym was crowded every time I came across. The pool area looked beautiful, but it required pre-registering and a special key. Finally, the only guest facility I really visited was having a look to the guest laundry. The check-in process was quite okay – overall, the staff was quite friendly. The WiFI was good as well.
Hampton Providence / Warwick Airport – My View
The lack of a work desk in the living room area together with the sketch of a kitchen and especially the disrespectful state of the bathroom does not allow for a good rating of the hotel. Bad luck, the location is not at all bad (even though Providence Airport might not be too significant in air traffic) and the lobby and breakfast area is really nice. The pool area looked very nice as well. To me, it is an excellent example that sometimes it might be better to downgrade guests in room category (assuming that these have a better state).
