You might struggle with that statement intiially, but in fact the city of Oswiecim is likely one of the globally most well-known cities in Poland. The 40,000 people town between Krakow and Katowice is not well-known for its Polish name, but for its German name and Nazi cruelties: most of you will know Oswiecim as Auschwitz and the terrible mass murders happening in three concentration camps around the city. As the Auschwitz Concentration Camp Museum and Auschwitz-Birkenau still attracts masses of people per year (including a lot of US American tourists), it is maybe not that surprising that Hilton is having one of their Polish outlets there. Here is my view of the Hampton by Hilton Oswiecim.
Hampton by Hilton Oswiecim – Location
The Hampton by Hilton Oswiecim is located right at the Sola River in the city center of Oswiecim. The old town is quite beautiful and offers some minor touristic and shopping sites. I guess that overall ninety per cent of the abroad guests visit the city due to its dark history. The two concentration camps are a five to ten minute drive away from the hotel with the Oswiecim train station being about half way.
I did not see too much of the city center of Oswiecim. For touristic supplies, there are several Biedronka discount supermarkets around. There are also some restaurants around the hotel. Especially the Galeria Niwa shopping mall (about one kilometer away) offers some posh options to distract yourself.
Hampton by Hilton Oswiecim – The Room
I booked a Twin Room, which has been the cheapest category at the time of booking. The refundable price (breakfast is always included at Hampton) was 423 PLN, roughly 93 EUR. Overall, the room was quite spacious, but the double bedding just took too much space. The most obvious proof for that was the work desk. I just could sit on the very corner of the desk – the chair would not even fit between the bed and the table for normal-sized people. Apart from that, the room was very clean and came with all amenities you need – including air conditioning and a coffee maker.
The bathroom felt a bit of narrow-ish, but was overall absolutely fine. Like in most European Hamptons, the bathroom is a shower one with fixed dispensers for amenities.
Hampton by Hilton Oswiecim – Breakfast
The lobby and the breakfast area of the hotel is really a nice space. I in general like the design of the European Hampton hotels – you might have seen them in other reviews as well. The options at breakfast were very nice, so that I had a good start of the day. I couldn’t eat too much, having my guided tour through the Auschwitz Museum right after breakfast, anyway / unfortunately.
Hampton by Hilton Oswiecim – Services
The welcoming in the hotel was really nice. The staff was overall very friendly and tried to help with any issue. WiFi was comparably quick. The hotel drives a rather nice and large gym.
There is a two storey parking garage below the hotel. The parking lots were quite wide / comfortable. You approach parking from river level. The daily parking rate is 30 PLN.
Hampton by Hilton Oswiecim – My View
First of all, the Hampton by Hilton Oswiecim is a great hotel. The offer really nice service – the brand feels to deliver very good all over Europe and so they did in this historically heartbreaking place. I do struggle with the value for money a bit though. You will find rather posh options in and around Oswiecim for a significantly better price. Vice versa, there are places like the Hampton in Warsaw I stayed thereafter, which are about half price in a central location of the capital. That’s business – make your customer pay the maximum they feel comfortable with. Still a Top Pick!.
