  • Straight alternative rock style
  • Very fluent listen

Red Ocean is a German alternative rock duo. I ran into their sophomore EP Mad For It, which has been released on 22nd August 2025. Here is my review.

Red Ocean – About The Artists

Red Ocean is a German band from Berlin. The duo solely consists of Danny Weber (drums) and Bernhard Pausch (guitar, vocals). Pausch is in fact from Austria, he grew up in Gastein and moved to Hamburg at the age of 19. In 2024, they released their debut EP Snapshots, which has over 100k Spotify streams.

Red Ocean – Mad For It – Track by Track

The six track EP lasts 18 minutes.

1. Snakes

The EP consists of four previously released and two unreleased tracks. The opener Snakes sounds rough, direct. I’ve been chased by snakes in my dream, Pausch screams into the microphone, while Weber is driving the pace in this April 2025 single release. A song full of madness and anger, which works surprisingly well.

2. Be Mine

The second song Be Mine comes with a different character. The rough, slightly grungy character stays, but the song has a strong groove and thus feels a bit like a blues rocker. Red Ocean requests He’s not your favorite song – be mine early in the song. Did it work out? We don’t know – but at least that story lead to a pretty cool song.

3. Wiped Out

Being released in late July 2025, Wiped Out has been the latest single before the album. Again, the song is anger, feeling burned out. However, the song has a nice melodic, even though melancholic touch. Nice one.

4. Overkill

The first previously unlreleased song on Mad For It is Overkill. The song strongly focuses on the vocals and even opens with a short, choir-alike section. Overall, the song feels experimental and even a bit of psychedelic. The bass elements of the song are cool.

5. Summer 24

A summer, which made a lot of memories – for Red Ocean, this was the Summer 24. The memories cause a touch of melancholy, which dampen the spirit of the song slightly. Nonetheless, it is a cool listen. I absolutely like it.

Summer of ‘24
I was searching for something more
Ante up or you’re down, then try to cope with the pain
But I’d go back and do it over again
It was the summer that I learned to soar,
The summer of ‘24

6. Mad For It

I keep searching my hometown
And I’ve been wandering around
Seen it all, but at what price?
I want it all, and I’m mad for it baby, until I die
I can’t resist it

Finally, there is the title track. Mad For It closes the EP as its longest listen (4:26 minutes). It’s a cool rock’n’roller, which keeps the general style of the songs before. Overall, this leads to a very fluent and enjoyable listen.

Red Ocean – Mad For It – My View

I really enjoyed listening to Mad For It. Bernhard Pausch is an excellent presenter of the stories told by the duo. Red Ocean keep their style and thus lead to a good 18 minute listen. One or two more new songs next time would be appreciated, though.
