In later 2021, I ran into the music by German–American artist Rickie Lee Kroell by a contact to her promotion agency. On 7th February 2022, she is releasing a new EP, Hauptsache was mit Deichkind. I have been really curious before the review.

Rickie Lee Kroell – Hauptsache was mit Deichkind – Track by Track
The six song EP lasts 19 minutes. Thereby, the title is referring to the German pop band Deichkind, from which she used lyrics.
1. Die Welt ist fertig
The four minute front single Die Welt ist Feritg is opening Kroell’s EP. The song is rather slow and atmospheric and then located somewhere between electronic pop and synth-pop. Her high voice is the key element of the song which is finally creating the key focuis.
2. Befehl von ganz unten
The second track translates to “Order from the very bottom”. Kroell is using more voice distortion. The song also gives more of the “jazzy” feeling compared to the first song. Very centered around the lyrics.
3. Hauptsache nicht mit Menschen
The song was the first Rickie Lee Kroell track I listened to – and it is still my favorite listen out of these six song. The chorus is very catchy. The bridge is a bit of confusing to me, but apart from that, I really love to listen to the artist.
4. Show ’n Shine
The next two songs nicely connect to the style of the third song – which I absolutely enjoy. Show ‘n Shine is having a lot of potential to make you move on the dancefloor. Very pop-ish, but working with the very pitched vocals. The song is in German, by the way, despite the chorus.
5. 23 Dohlen
Rickie Lee Kroell may also write about birds – 23 Dohlen simply means “23 daws”. A slightly darker atmosphere, which is nicely arranged around the lyrics.
Alle Vögel sind schon da
Sie fliegen hoch, ganz hoch
Alle Vögel sind schon da
Es sind 23 Dohlen
(“All birds are there already
They are flying high, so high
All birds are there already
They are 23 daws.”)
6. Investment 7
Mein siebtes Investment bist Du – “You are my seventh investment” – likely, not the most charming way to describe human relationships. The song is the shortest one on the EP (2:23 minutes). A nice one, but not on my list of favorites.

Rickie Lee Kroell – Hauptsache was mit Deichkind – My View
Rickie Lee Kroell’s EP is one of these “I generally don’t like the genre too much, but I really love this song” listens to me. She simply gives me an enjoyable time. The sound is very modern, versatile and comes with elements which stay in your mind. Finally, it is good music.
