My 15 Favorite Hotels I Have Stayed in… So Far

At the time when I started writing this posting in early March 2024, Flyctory.com already featured reviews of over 320 hotels. In all of those place, I have stayed since I rolled Flyctory.com in early 2018. During a trip to Munich, I reflected about which of them have been the best experiences ever. This posting is not just giving you the fifteen hotels with the rating, however. I always include the chain and the general class of hotel in my rating. Otherwise, a Hampton by Hilton could very likely never get a very, very high rating. Vice versa, a Hampton rated 4.8 might still be (in an absolute sense) be worse than a 4.4 rated Conrad luxury hotel.

Thus, I felt to share my favorite places I have ever stayed in with you. I initially wanted do go for ten hotels, but finally ended up with a list of fifteen. It does include one hotels I have stayed in before the Flyctory.com era. And some hotels also simply lead to some emotions and might thus feel better to me than they feel to you. Nonetheless, I feel that any of the places I quote in here are absolutely worth staying a few nights. Hope you enjoy my posting!

My 15 Favorite Hotels I have Stayed in… So far

Here are my fifteen favorites so far, of course with my most favorite hotel at the very end of the list.

15th: Vliegtuigsuite

A former GDR governmental plane in the Netherlands – the Vliegtuigsuite (“Airplane Suite”) is definitely the most uncommon overnight on my list. The way they turned the plane into a bed & breakfast is amazing – and if you cannot sleep, you simply sit down in the cockpit and “fly” into the land of dreams. A great place for aviation nerds (like me).

14th: Hilton Garden Inn Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands are definitely a very emotional spot for me. I simply love the nature and the people there. The Hilton Garden Inn is not just the only Hilton spot out there, but a lovely piece of architecutre and hospitality at the edge of Torshavn. Don’t miss their hot tub!

13th: NH Collection Munich Bavaria

I had a couple of really good stays at NH Collection hotels. But the very centrally located NH Collection Munich Bavaria is definitely a little bit better than the others. Very convenient, great service – and the title picture below was the incredible view from my hotel room.

12th: Hilton Gdansk

Gdansk is a lovely spot in Poland. The centrally located Hilton Gdansk does not only come with very nice hospitality, I also can absolutely recommend their restaurant. I had an absolutely lovely time there.

11th: Hotel Alpina Wellness & Spa Kössen

In my Best of 2021 posting, I selected this hotel as the most relaxing hotel I reviewed in that year. The location in an Alpine valley is lovely, the restaurants did a great service. The vast selection of spa facilities, though, is the striking argument to have some nights in Austria.

10th: Hilton Garden Inn Krakow Airport

If only the Krakow Airport Train would be quicker and ran more frequent, this airport hotel would be even better. Located right across the terminal of Krakow Airport (KRK), the Hilton Garden Inn came with likely the best staff I ever had at a hotel of that class.

9th: MAP Boutique Hotel Nicosia

My wife and I had two nights in the hotel, when we visited Cyprus in 2022. The boutique style stay in the heart of the capital came with a lovely room, a lovely breakfast and a very nice location close to the old town. Lovely place!

8th: Hyatt Regency Cologne

The Hyatt Regency is one of the best picks in my home town Cologne. You should definitely go for a Cathedral View room, overlooking the River Rhine and the most famous building in the city. Being close to the Cologne Deutz Trade Fair high speed rail station, the hotel is a great option if you want to go for a city stay with a touch of luxury.

7th: Hilton Kuala Lumpur

I felt so happy being back in this hotel in the heart of the Malaysian capital recently. Hilton Kuala Lumpur is directly connected to the main station KL Sentral, the main station of Kuala Lumpur. The service is great, the pool area in the heart of the city remarkable.

6th: The WB Hotel, Abu Dhabi

Especially in high season, the prices for the The WB on Yas Island peak quite a lot. You do get free admission for one of the adjacent amusement parks (of your choice), though. And you meet Tom & Jerry or other characters in the lobby, if you are lucky. This Curio Collection by Hilton Hotel definitely made me smile.

5th: Santa Catalina (Royal Hideaway) Las Palmas

Not only as the hotel is featured in the movie as well, my hunt for the Zärtliche Chaoten 2 movie original places on Gran Canaria came with an excellent stay. The Santa Catalina in Southern Las Palmas is a lovely place. The historic architecture turns it into something very special, indeed.

4th: Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest

In November 2023, I had a night at the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus in Budapest. The luxury hotel is coming with a perfect location and lovely service – even though the pool is a bit too small. Nonetheless, I really love it!

3rd: Hilton Munich Airport

Why should you stay in an airport hotel for fun? My wife and I did so recently – and I will do again, definitely. The Hilton Munich Airport is Germany’s best airport hotel to me. Great lounge, great spa, lovely people. And you profit from the short, almost completely covered connections to the airport services. On Sundays, you can watch the live TV soccer show Doppelpass there.

2nd: Conrad Dubai

The Conrad is my favorite stay in Dubai. The service is excellent, the pool area is lovely. On top of that, the executive lounge comes with a great view. If you are not travelling in peak season, the hotel is also surprisingly affordable.

My Favorite Hotel I Have Stayed in so Far:
Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi

The winner on my list is unfortunately the only place I haven’t visited as a hotel guest in Flyctory.com times. In the early to mid-2010’s, you had the chance to have some really great deals there, including amazing half-board service. The two pools are amazing – and you even have a butler, who is caring for you. Amazing hospitality in the U.A.E. capital.
