Covid-19 lead to numerous flight cancellations and rebookings. One of them was that I finally ended up flying back from Iceland in summer 2021 one day later than I originally intended to do. But what about the rental car booking? Prolonging the booking I already had at Geysir Car Rental would have costed me a fortune. It was cheaper for me to go for another rental. Thus, I added a one day rental at Procar, another local provider with Keflavik Airport (KEF) services. Here are my thoughts about the review.

 

Procar Keflavik Airport (KEF) – The Rental

I knew that for this additional day, I will just be around Reykjanesbaer and Greater Reykjavic. Thus, I went for a simple, non 4-WD car. In order to avoid any kind of troube, I added the zero self-retention package. The car category I booked was a VW Polo. The one day rental including that full insurance package was 21.690 ISK. In fact, I received an upgrade to a Dacia Duster – compared to the Geysir rental before, this Duster has been a later generation of the popular 4WD car.

 

Procar Keflavik Airport (KEF) – Location & Office

Procar is located at the Vesturbraut in Keflavik. This also means that they neither have an office at the airport directly nor in the rental car park. The office is just some five minutes away from Keflavik International Airport (KEF) though. They typically wait for you at the airport – as I had my rental with Geysir before, we agreed to call them when I am at the terminal – I was however lucky and directly ran into one of the Procar people after walking from the Geysir office to the terminal building. The rental car office is in an area with other companies and mobility providers. The Hotel Duus, in which I stayed for one night, was very close to their location.

 

 

Procar Keflavik Airport (KEF) – Receiving The Car

As said, I ran into a Procar person, so that the process was absolutely smooth. My full coverage for that day also made it easy for both parties – the rental process in their Keflavik office took about five minutes maximum – I likely needed more time to adjust the car to my needs. I also liked that Procar gathers all paperwork in a little folder.

 

Procar Keflavik Airport (KEF) – Returning The Car

Due to the zero protection coverage, returning the car was as smooth as renting it. There was a bit of delay as I did fuel up the car, but despite some ten liters of fueling, the fuel display did not move. Thus, they had to check the car. The car check went fine though and there was no major slow-down to the return process – the transfer back to the airport by the bus was really quick and efficient again.

 

The Car – Dacia Duster 4WD

I feel that there was just one generation of cars between the Dacia Duster I had with Geysir and this one. I did not make any use of the car’s offroad abiities, but it gave me a good service during a trip to Reykjavic and Sky Lagoon. I loved the significant technical upgrade compared to the Duster I had before, especially the speed limitor.

Even though the car had a mileage of some 90,000 km, it looked actually quite good (part of that, of course, is the fact that you don’t see scars on white paint that well). In order to at least have some “proper” pictures of the car, I went to a gravel road close to the Keflavik to Reykjavik connection road.

 

Procar Keflavik Airport (KEF) – My View

I was really pleased with my rental with Procar. The service was very friendly, personal and also efficient. The location outside the terminal area does not bother too much in summer, but the situation might look different on an Iceland winter day. I felt safe and well-handled by the company.
