It is 59 years ago since Mitch Ryder released his debut album. The US-American rock and blues rock artist is still not tired of writing and releasing music. If I read his discography right, his 2025 release With Love is his 33rd studio album overall. He published it on 21st February 2025.

Mitch Ryder – About The Artist

Mitch Ryder, whose civil name is William S. Levise, was born on 26th February 1945. He is originally from Hamtramck in Greater Detroit, Michigan. He started in the Detroit music scene and had some bands like The Tempest and Lee & the Rivieras. In 1966, he released his first album Take a Ride. It was one of six studio albums which has been released with the band The Detroit Wheels. His biggest single hits were also published in that era. Devil With A Blue Dress On (1966) peaked fourth in the US charts. The following year, he had a sixth placed song with Sock It To Me Baby. Since then, he is regularly releases new music and tours with his song. His last studio album has been the 2023 Georgia Drift. Last year, he released the live album The Roof Is On Fire.

Mitch Ryder – With Love – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 39 minutes

1. Lilli May

With Love kicks off with Lilli May, which has also been one of the featured singles of the album. The raspy voice by Mitch Ryder and the groovy blues style lead to cool vibes. The US-American artists gives you an easy option to get into his 2025 songs with this opener, which also comes with nice piano lines and scattered brass support.

2. Pass It To The Right

The second track is Pass It To The Right. It is slower than the opener and thus feels a bit more laid back. Again, Mitch Ryder works wisely with instrumental elements as well. This track works with a nice panpipes elements, for example.  Overall, the song has a darker soul, but comes with a lot of blues and rock vibes.

3. Sanguine

Blues mixed with soul, that’s the style of the third track Sanguine. The song comes with a rather straight blues structure, the soulful elements are supported by nice bass and piano elements. This leads to a very mature and catching listen.

4. One Monkey

Especially compared to SanguineOne Monkey is more rhythmic and also comes with a faster tempo. Mitch Ryders voice is in focus, supported by some backing vocals. Guitar lovers also have some nice sections to enjoy. The song deals with Ryders former drug addiction. Very nice listen.

5. Oh What A Night

The almost five minute track Oh What A Night is an almost five minute listen. The rhythm might be surprising, as Ryder goes for a very groovy tango style in here. Overall, this sound is very groovy. So far, With Love came with songs already which made you move to the rhythm – but this one is even boosting that feeling.

6. Wrong Hands

Do you like the Rolling Stones? In that case, Wrong Hands might be the With Love song to for. A slight blues groove stays on and the brass in the background leads to a very individual flavor. A real treat.

7. Too Damned Slow

Too Damned Slow is the longest track of the record, exceeding a five minute duration. This leads to an epic, relaxed listen with a nice plot. Nonetheless, the song feels a bit of hidden in the context of the album to me. The instrumental lines are very nice, though.

8. Fly

This January single release has been the first bite of With Love shared with the fans. The song heads back to blues-rock vibes and is thus one of the rather characteristic and typical songs of the album.

9. The Artist

In The Artist, Mitch Ryder is reflecting about himself. The rather short song comes with a mysterious, slightly scary atmosphere. The song works with atmospheric backing elements, mainly driven by the piano and a flute. Neither blues or rock feelings in here – therefor, you have a really intense and impressing listen.

10. Just The Way It Is

After this slow and quiet song, Mitch Ryder and his musicians spread a lot of energy in the chucker-out. Just The Way It Is has a strong beat and a nice melody. The song has a strong R&B touch, but also has some pop music attitude.

Mitch Ryder – With Love – My view

Not only due to the more special songs towards its end, With Love is a really nice album with versatile elements. The blending of blues and rock elements works very well and the sprinkles of soul and R&B add a nice flavor to the album. Really nicely done by Mitch Ryder.

Favorite Song: One Monkey
