NH Hotels are rolling out a new brand of hotels in Europe: nhow (pronounced as “now”) is a group of individual, high class hotels with a boutique touch, which are reflecting a specific topic in their branding. nhow Berlin, for example, is the first music hotel in Europe (according to nhow’s website). My wife and I visited nhow Frankfurt on a Rock of Ages trip. The key topic of nhow Frankfurt is finance and economy. We were really curious whether all the advertisement and social media campaigns keep their promise in reality. Here is my review, based on a June 2023 stay.
nhow Frankfurt – Location
The hotel is located right next to Frankfurt trade fair. It is located in a skyscraper ONE by CA. Another really nice feature of the hotel is that it is next to the shopping mall Skyline Plaza, which is offering grocery stores, some restaurants and shops of all kinds. Apart from Messe Frankfurt (Frakfurt Trade Fair), it is also close to the Festhalle, a venue for concerts and events.
The walking distance from the Northern exit of Frankfurt Main Station is ten to fifteen minutes. Especially if you travel with major luggage, you can also use the underground station Festhalle/Messe (line U4), which is just a few minute away from the hotel entrance. There are also several tram lines servicing the area, 10, 16 and 17. The hotel parking garage is subject to a fee of 32 EUR per day.
nhow Frankfurt – Room
My wife and I booked an nhow Suite (which includes lounge access). The one night rate, Saturday to Sunday, in June 2023, was 243.84 EUR. .Strictly speaking, the room was not a suite as it did not have separate areas. More confusing, though, is that pictures of a room looking at least very similar to the one we got are shown as Junior Suite on the website of the hotel.
That’s about the key critics about the room, though. The suite was really spacious. You entered the room at the sink, with the shower and toilet right opposite. The posh green and pink room design as been very striking. nhow also offers you all kinds of amentieis in that at area, which also hosts the fridge / mini bar and the water kettle and the coffee machine.
The rear of the room features the sleeping area and the work desk. Due to the massive window front (there are blinds as well as curtains), you have a lovely view over Frankfurt and the trade fair area. The bed was very comfy and there was overall a lot of space. However, just having one power outlet and two USB charge outputs at the work desk is just not sufficient for an almost brand new hotel (opened in 2022) of this price category. I would also have loved to have more space between the work desk and the bed – one striking argument for a suite to me is typically that one person can work while the other is sleeping.
The shower and toilet area looked posh in a dark style with some light. However, part of the illumination of that are came from two window alike glass pieces. As you can neither have a curtain block the view in another way, your room mate or guest may watch you while having a shower or being on the loo. I guess that some people may be bothered about it. No privacy by design has been offered by the lovely bathtub, which is located in the aisle between the entrance and sink area and the sleeping area. Bathrobe and slippers were provided. The slippers looked very posh, but have a terrible quality. They broke after me wearing them for some ten seconds. Additionally, some people may dislike that the room does not feature a full-length mirror.
nhow Frankfurt – Executive Lounge
The suite room entitled us to use the executive lounge. The service was a bit of strange, as there was neither a restricted access by room key nor by a hotel staff member. There was some service here and there and they managed to refill the buffet, but they never checked us or our room category. The evening snacks in the lounge were actually nice. They had some bread and pizza-alike snacks as well as fried vegetable rings. However, the temperature for the food did not work out well. The lounge also offered some drinks including beer and a bit of wine, but was not too strong on the spirits side.
nhow Frankfurt – Breakfast
We could have opted for breakfast in the lounge as well, but went for the “ordinary” buffet breakfast, which is served in the first floor restaurant. The atmosphere of the breakfast was nice and we also enjoyed the range and presentation of items. However, the tables were rather close to each other – it may be bothering to sit on the window and to squeeze between two tables if the hotel is fully booked. There is also live cooking with omelettes and other egg dishes.
nhow Frankfurt – Bar
On the 47th floor of the building, the hotel is offering the NFT Sky Bar & Restaurant. It offers a 360 degrees views of Frankfurt and is thus one of the best places to explore the city from above. Of course, sipping some cocktails there is not cheap, but it is a really nice place to hang out. The food menu is rather limited, though. As a hotel guest, you are welcome to visit the area with complimentary access – which you definitely should do when you stay there.
nhow Frankfurt – Service
Aoart from several meeting rooms, the third floor of nhow Frankfurt features the beautiful gym and sauna area. The gym may be a bit of small in case the hotel is fully booked, but is overall really nicely done. The sauna is a nice feature as well. WiFi in the room and in the lounge worked very well. I absolutely enjoyed the service by the hotel staff. However, even though the merger of NH Hotels into the GHA Discovery frequent traveler program happened a few months before our stay, there were still severe issues with my loyalty account at check-in.
nhow Frankfurt – My View
The nhow Frankfurt is a posh hotel in a great location in Frankfurt. Some design features like the distribution of power outlets and the “windows” to the bathroom are questionable, though. unique bar is, of course, a nice reason to spend some time in the hotel, especially in summer. The price is high, it would be fine without some of these weird issues, though. Still, of course, a Top Pick! in Frankfurt.
