Six US States And Nashville (Day 3 – 1st June 2025) – Sunday in Nashville

The third day of my trip was dedicated to Music City. I wanted to be in the city, explore music – and also potentially meet some people and contacts. Here is the third day of my Six US States And Nashville trip report. The day started with struggle and ended up with a lot of great experiences.

A Lot Of Work – and the Beauty of Friendship

Especially the weekends coming with album reviews are a bit on the busy side. While I wanted to leave to Nashville rather early, I did the bare minimum to keep the blog running and left the Hampton Inn Nashville / Brentwood I-65S at around noon. I wanted to do some roadtripping in Music City first and passed by some of the houses (or are these already mansions?) of people who obviously made it. I would have loved to take pictures of more of the buildings, but I just did not dare to stop at the roadside, as I would have likely hit their one of the well-maintained lawns. There was also quite a lot of traffic due to Sunday church, which felt rather fascinating to me. There is much more religious activity here than in Germany, for example.

I passed by some Nashville icons, like the legendary (but tiny) Bluebird Cafe or the Nashville Wings. In between, I had a short stop at an Amazon locker, upgrading my US technical equipment. Thereafter I headed to Music Row, meeting with the lovely Brittany Brodie for a coffee chat. Such an amazing artist – I recently featured her for the second time in a Spotlight interview. That’s finally the real value Flyctory.com is creating – having great people close to you, who like what you are doing.

Bar-Hopping on the Broadway

Brittany and I chatted for more than an hour, before she had to do some artist work and went Downtown. I parked the car at the Library Garage (maybe the only Central Nashville parking lot, which does not kill your soul by paying the parking fee). Then I went to the Broadway. While there is a wide range of vehicles driving through town partying and even the snack booths are addicted to country music, I had another focus. I did some bar-hopping, just strolling around the honky-tonks and stopping by for a drink where you like the music. I first had a (non-alcoholic) drink at the Losers Bar & Grill Downtown right off Broadway. Thereafter, I went to AJ’s Good Time Bar, driven by Alan Jackson. The band there, Wild Bill and the Bruisers, was amazing.

My Favorite Spot in Nashville

It was time to walk South on 4th Ave, heading to my favorite Nashville place, the The Listening Room Cafe. Before I headed to the show, Mary Joy McDaniel played in the foyer. I really loved her set and her style. I especially loved her for playing her version of I Hate Myself For Loving You, which is also featured in my beloved musical, Rock of Ages. Then, it was time to head to the Main Stage room, which featured Emily Landis and her husband Johnny McGuire as well as Adam Hambrick on that show. They were simply outstanding. Having a calm room, respectful people, who listen to and enjoy the music – such a treat compared to Jenn Bostic’s set in Franklin the day before. The food there is also nice, so that I was fed and happy when I left the place.

Some Night Impressions

After that, I went back to the Broadway, enjoying the sunset in Nashville. I did some more bar-hopping, but finally no act on stage really caught me. Time to go home after a lovely day in the city. I just had a short detour enjoying the Nashville Downtown view at night and having a look at the new Nissan Stadium construction site.

My Song of the Day: Gabby Barrett – The Good Ones

This trip is about music. Thus I felt present one song each day which somehow accompanied me every day. And I added a playlist of these songs – and some more – on my Spotify account as well:

I decided to go for three songs, which have been written by the artists on stage at the The Listening Room Cafe. For the leading song, I went for The Good Ones by Gabby Barrett, written by Emily Landis. The two other songs I picked are Somebody Else Will (by Justin Moore, written by Adam Hambrick) and Chevys and Ford, written and recorded by Billy Ray Cyrus and Johnny McGuire. Of course, I also had to include Brittany Brodie in this day’s post, coming with her current single, Cowboys.

Here is the full playlist, which will grow day by day:
