Flyctory.com Songs Of The Week (week of 15th November 2024)

Are you already counting down the days to Christmas? You definitely feel an impact on the music industry of the days being ahead. The music released feels more tranquil than in the weeks before – and I am sure Last Christmas by Wham will make it to the single charts in many markets again (it made it to the German ones already last week). Obviously, this would not be a new song – and thus it has no chance to make it into my weekly music overview. But this time, there are massive holiday vibes as well.

Sam Fender – People Watching

People Watching will also be the title track of Sam Fender’s new album, which is going to be released on 21st February 2025. I really loved this energetic indie-rock track by the English artist, whose first two albums both topped the British charts, both earning a platinum record. Thus, he is on the top of my Songs of the Week this time.

Danny Laten – Blink

Danny Laten is a German artist, who is originally from Berlin, but nowadays living in my home town Cologne. So far, he released songs under the artist name Danny only – this one is his first one as Danny Laten.

Elton John & Brandi Carlile – Never Too Late

Two big names in the music join forces for the title song of the new movie Elton John: Never Too Late. Simply a lovely British-US-American collaboration.

Gary Kemp – Put Your Head Up

Gary Kemp is a British actor and musician, who is well known as the founding member and songwriter of Spandau Ballet. This week, he shared a new song as a solo artist. His new solo album This Destination is scheduled for late January 2025.

Julian Grabmayer – Bis die Wölt untergeht

Julian Grabmayer is an Austrian pop artist, typically singing in Austrian German dialect. This week, he released his beautiful ballad Bis die Wölt untergeht (“Until the world is perishing”). I absolutely love it.

Klaus Danner – I bin halt a Träumer

Just heading a bit up North – the next song in my Songs of the Week is by Bavarian schlager-pop artist Klaus Danner. Another really beautiful ballad – it feels that this season is simply made for warmth, hugging and romance.

Hannes Schöner – Handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel

Hannes Schöner did have a Top 30 song in 1982 in Germany, but in fact you know him as the bassist and vocalist of the Cologne band Höhner. He was part of the band from 1990 to 2020 and now is going solo. This song is a studio bonus track of his upcoming live album. In 2023, he released his solo album Nah bei mir.

Teyna feat. The decaffeinated Sloth – Then It’s Love

Southern German artist Teyna released this beautiful pop-rock song during the week already. I really enjoyed listening to it… And still think about a decaffeinated sloth… Cool band name…

Nicki – Vor langer Zeit

As said, I feature a couple of Christmas songs this week as well. The first one is by the German country schlager legend Nicki. She stated that she in fact wrote the song in 1985 already. 39 years later, it is released. A good one.

Marie Reim – Liebesfieber

Marie Reim released one of my favorite new songs of this week. Great to see that she is more and more developing her style. A catching and rhythmic pop song with some schlager roots.

Liora Winslet – Never Change a Winning Team

Unfortunately, I have practically no information about this artist. Even the promotion platform is very sparse in it. Bad luck – I feel it is a really nice, straight-forward pop track.

Tabi – Weihnachtswunder

Tabi is a Munich-based artist. The song title translates to “Christmas Miracle” – the combination of a x-mas track and schlager is a bit of kitschy – but I like it.

Perrie – Christmas Magic

Staying with some tunes for the family moments at the end of December, there is another Christmas pop track in my Songs of the Week this time. Perrie is the artist name of Perrie Edwards. The British singer waspart of the girl group Little Mix, which was active from 2011 to 2022. Not too surprisingly, she is followed by almost 20 million people on Instagram.

Punkberater – Firmenweihnachtsfeier

I generally like Christmas songs, which also have an ironic and humorous touch. The Vienna-based Austrian fun punk band Punkberater takes you to their Firmenweihnachtsfeier (“Company Christmas Party”). Let’s say there is not too much reason to really celebrate that year, regarding the lyrics. The more, it is fun listening to these guys.
