A 16th century palace, which has been renovated in the late 1990’s and turned into a posh hotel – apart from its perfect location to my summer trip to Italy, this just felt too interesting when I was looking for a night in Northern Milan. Actually, the price was really nice and the hotel is a Curio Collection by Hilton – to make the story short: I just had to have a look into Grand Hotel Villa Torretta Milan. Here is my review.

Grand Hotel Villa Toretta – Location & Transport

The Grand Hotel Villa Toretta is located in Sesto (or: Sesto San Giovanni), a Northwest borough of Milan. The hotel has quite a nice access to the A4/§64 part of the orbit motorway around the North Italian metropolis. The hotel is also offering parking spaces and a (a bit of challenging) parking garage to their guests. If you use public transport, there is a bus station connected to two lines (713, 728) in front of the hotel. More conveniently, you might rather take a few hundred meters walk and connect to the tram (line 31) from V.le Testi. From there, it is one stop (or a bit of additional walking) to Bignami, which is the terminal stop of the metro to Milan city center (line 5).

The area around the hotel may not feel that touristic at first sight. However, there are some nice places around. Sports fans might know Stadio Breda, a 4,500 stadium used for soccer and American football. It is just a few steps away. Right across the street, there is a major shopping mall, Centro Sarca, which also features some facilities to get food.

Grand Hotel Villa Toretta – Atmosphere

The scenery of the hotel is outstanding. They did a really great way in renovating the place – you will especially value it if you look at the pictures close to the reception, which show the hotel ruins before the renovation works. For the gallery walk on ground level, they have added glass panes, which makes it really cozy if you for example want to go from your room to the gym (see below). On a nice day, it is, of course, also worth to have a walk through the beautiful park. The overall atmosphere is really generous and posh.

Grand Hotel Villa Toretta – The Room

My original booking was a Queen Room. The price for one night was 97.50 EUR. I had free breakfast as a Hilton Honors Diamond member and received a lovely upgrade. The room was really large, its design beautifully fitted to the style of the hotel. I liked the wooden floor and the carpets, the large bed and the large work desk. Nonetheless, the technical equipment of the room was modern. A very nice feature of the room was also the beautiful seating corner with a small table. A small, but nice feature was the organizer in the door of the clothes cupboard. Some power outlets were able to serve US / Asian power plugs (but not the British three plug format).

The shower bathroom was also spacious and nice. It had all facilities necessary and had a nice design as well.

Grand Hotel Villa Toretta – Breakfast

The picturesque Il Vico della Torretta restaurant was hosting the breakfast. Due to the pandemic regulations, bread-alike items were given as a fixed set at the table, some other items were given in sealed small bowls or plates on a small buffet at the aisle. Egg dishes were served on request – however, the waiter initially did not offer them to me. I felt that he had a generally rather tough time, as he was servicing most of the breakfast during the time I had it on his own.

Grand Hotel Villa Toretta – Services

Overall, the service was really nice. The staff was really friendly friendly, the WiFi worked good. I did not like that much that there was no elevator or similar from the parking garage (in contrast to the remaining complex). The water pressure was a bit of low and the air condition had some trouble with average summer temperatures. On ground level, the hotel runs a functional gym.

Grand Hotel Villa Toretta – My View

Villa Toretta is a lovely location. The architecture is creating a memorable stay and the staff is doing their best on top of that. I loved my room and its historic style. Surprisingly, the breakfast was a bit on the basic side. Trust your GPS, the entrance to the hotel is a bit hidden if you come from the motorway. A typical Curio Collection hotel: a special place, great service and a lot of characteristic elements. If your plans allow for a hotel a bit more outside of central Milan, this is a great option.
