  • Nice variety of songs
  • Good storytelling

In my music reviews as of 20th February 2026, it happens that there is quite a lot of folk in stock. One debut EP review is Right Place Wrong Time by German artist Vernier. I ran into the promo of the EP and just had to share my thoughts.

Vernier – About The Artist

Vernier is the artist name of Jannis Vernier. The young artist is originally from Nottuln in the North of the German state Northrhine-Westphalia. His first major steps into music was as a drummer in jazz. He won a price with a youth jazz orchestra in 2018. Thereafter, he tried out several genres and started to write songs. His music touches multiple genres, but majorly focuses around folk-pop. In October 2025, he released his debut single Screwed Up.

Vernier – Right Place Wrong Time – Track by Track

The five track EP lasts 14 minutes.

1. Breakup Season

The opener of the EP is the speedy and rhythmic Breakup Season. The song is comparably pop-ish and spreads some dance vibes as well – despite the topic is not on the happy side. A good track with a nice and catching melody.

Don’t you wonder why I’m leaving
Don’t you cry because it’s not your fault
I can’t stop it from repeating
I checked my phone baby it’s not my call
It’s breakup season

2. Screwed Up

Screwed Up has been Vernier’s debut single. The song has a very different character. The folk music and singer-songwriter style is much more present. This leads to a more personal and direct listen. The track is another break-up one, though. Vernier for example asks Baby could you leave without my heart I let you keep my shirt. A really nice listen.

3. Like That

The four minute Like That is the longest song of the release. The song comes with an intense atmosphere and spreads a lot of reflection and melancholy. A very well written and touching listen, which again presents a very different side of Vernier’s music

4. One Way Street

With two minutes, One Way Street is a rather crisp listen. There are flavors of indie-rock in this song, which again deals with the end of a relationship. I let you leave if you wanna go, it’s a one way street, Vernier states in the chorus. I like the wide range of songs in this album.

5. Right Place Wrong Time

Finally, there is the title track. The song is a slower one, which comes with folk music style melodies and some present rhythmic elements. Nonetheless, the focus is on the voice of the German. I like it.

Vernier – Right Place Wrong Time – My View

Right Place Wrong Time works perfectly as a debut EP. It features five very different songs, which all work out individually and give you a nice opportunity to get into Vernier’s music. Nonetheless, the five songs tell a story. You feel the potential of these upcoming singer-songwriter. I definitely enjoyed listening to his first showcase.

My Favorite Song: Breakup Season
