  • Enjoyable classic rock album
  • Straight and fun listen

The vita of German artist Dan Lucas might be worth becoming part of a biopic or movie one day. However, so far, the rock musician is back in business. Five years after The Long Road, he is releasing a new album. Here is my review of Age Is Just A Number, which will be available on 27th March 2026.

Dan Lucas – About The Artist

Dan Lucas is a German artist, whose civil name is Lutz Salzwedel. He was born on 28th March 1954 in Falkensee near Berlin and grew up in the G.D.R.. Despite he initially worked as a teacher, he managed to study guitar and singing thereafter and had his first appearances with the band Passion. In 1985, he flew to West Germany and later lived in West Berlin. In the late 1980’s, he had some releases with the band Karo before turning solo. In 1992, he released his solo debut album Canada. Four years later, he added the album News.

Dan Lucas kept doing music, but rather focused on teaching and educating teenagers. However, in 2019, he won the very first edition of the German talent show The Voice Senior, which boosted his musical career. Lucas also had some roles as a musical actor and became famous in the Southern German music scene. Thus, I ran into him at the 2023 opening night of the musical Rock of Ages. He had his album comeback with The Long Road in 2021, 25 years after News. Thus, Age Is Just A Number is his fourth studio album overall.

Dan Lucas – Age Is Just A Number – Track by Track

The eleven track album lasts 40 minutes.

1. An Angel

The opening track and single release An Angel already sets a direction for the album. Classic rock sound with melodic and emotional moments are defining this song. There are speedy sections with stomping beats and rocking guitars, but also some slow-downs. Overall, though, Age Is Just A Number kicks off with a lot of energy.

2. Age Is Just A Number

The title track of the album is just next. Despite the song is rather short – less than three minutes – Dan Lucas goes for a some 25 second instrumental intro. Thereafter, the song turns into a straight rocker. The chorus works out well,

3. Losing Myself

Two songs from the album have been released beforehand. The second one is the rather hymnic Losing Myself. The song is a bit of nostalgic and old-school rock. But the melody works really well and stays in your mind. The third song is one of the core songs of the album, indeed.

4. I Never Wanna Say Goodbye

A couple of the following songs are about four minutes long now. The first one is I Never Wanna Say Goodbye. It has a lovely plot reaching towards the chorus. Dan Lucas is simply presenting melodic classic rock songs with a feelgood touch. Tracks like this one are simply enjoyable.

5. JP’s Bar

In the fifth song, the German is taking us to JP’s Bar. The song is a bit more narrative, slower, lyrical. The tempo is a bit slower, the focus is even more on the melody. This musical adventure takes you more and more into its story – and you have a great time with it.

6. The World Is Broken

The World Is Broken – the title is not only sounding darker and more pessimistic, the song also starts with a darker mood and intense riffs. Even though the song feels lighter later, when Dan Lucas presents more flowing elements as well – the song is one of the harder rockers of the album.

7. For A Smoke

The 4:29 minute song For A Smoke is the longest song of the album. There are rather present keyboard elements in it. After the rock firework before, the song even feels a bit of kitschy. Not a ballad, but For A Smoke is definitely a song, which is more on the emotional side.

8. Lost In The Shadows

With Lost In The Shadows, the album gets more rocking again. The song is about a breakup, a failed relationship. You don’t love me any more, just a shadow on the floor, as it is stated in the lyrics. The song is one of the most present ones of the album.

9. What About Tomorrow

Not as kitschy as For A Smoke, but again, Dan Lucas is working with keyboard and synth elements. The senior rocker feels to take you back into the 1980’s (again) with this song. The more, the final message We can safe tomorrow sounds much longer than the duration of the song.

10. True Love

A gently strumming acoustic guitar at the very beginning of the song – we are finally at the emotional and romantic climax of Age Is Just A Number. What would a good rock album be without its ballad? Here it is. And it is another proof that rock ballads are the best. With a warm heart, the listener heads into the final song.

11. Life Is Kind Of Rock´n Roll

Life Is Kind Of Rock’n’Roll – and this song is a lot of rock’n’roll. Let’s dance and part at the end of the album. The song might neither be the album’s most innovative song nor its best. But at least, Dan Lucas is closing his 2026 record with a lot of fun.

Dan Lucas – Age Is Just A Number – My View

The closing song of Age Is Just A Number is a good sum-up of my view on the album as such. The album is fun. It is a good listen and makes you smile. You might find deeper ones out there easily. But Dan Lucas gives you a straight, honest, good time. And that’s not too bad. I really enjoyed his album.

Favorite Song: Lost In The Shadows
