Hovslätts IK – Visby IBK 4-8 (3-1, 0-3, 1-4)

On the morning of 3rd January 2026, I traveled to Jönköping. In a noon match of the the Men SSL, I had my first appearance at Hovslätts IB. The last placed team in the Swedish floorball league faced fourth placed Växjö IBK. Here is my match report.

Hovslätt – Visby – Match Report

Hovslätt had the better start of the match. They even felt being able to get some additional points in the SSL as they lead 3-0 after 13 minutes. The first goal was by Simon Eriksson, who stood perfectly after a pass by Theo Bjerhag from a corner position in the seventh minute. Five minutes later, Leo Olsson successfully finished a right wing attack. Finally, it was Filip Larsson, who scored two minutes later. Visby offered some gaps in the defense in this part of the match and the Hovslätt captain went for a half-right position snipe. However, Visby did try a lot in that first period as well. Thus, it was not undeserved that Jesper Lagemyr at least reduced the lead to two goals in the 17th minute. From the right wing he managed to travel with the ball into a central position and made the ball pass Gustav Ringhagen in the Jönköping net.

A Power Play Gives Visby the Momentum

After that very dynamic and fast match, both teams deserved the fifteen minute intermission. The match kept on being fast and attractive in the second period, even though both teams now struggled more with the opposite defensive lines.  In the 31st minute, Vilgot Kronstand was sent to the bench after holding his opponent. These situations are too critical in the SSL, especially if you are the underdog. After one minute, Lagemyr scored the power play goal being positioned better than his opponents. Visby more and more took the momentum. Some good runs and passes in the 36th minute tied the score. Oscar Magnusson finally executed the Visby attack.

If you are unlucky, you are unlucky. Hovslätt had a great chance to get back the lead, but Rasmus Ekström somehow managed to block a not perfectly performed shot on the goal line. Magnusson finally turned the match completely. With less than two minutes left to play, he found a way with the ball from the right wing to a slot position and while falling already still cared for the first lead for his team. With that 3-4 score, the match went into the second break.

Incorrect Distance! Another Power Play Goal!

I am sure that the word “unlucky” will appear in many Hovslätt match reports. You rarely get a bench penalty for incorrect distance in the SSL – but Albin Rommeskog was simply too quick in the 44th minute after Visby faked a pass at a free hit on their own goal line. It took Ville Hirvisuo 19 seconds in power play to raise the Visby lead to two goals. However, Hovslätt did not give up and were awarded for that by Lucas Lindberg, who scored the 4-5 goal n the 48th minute. They also felt getting more ball and match control. Just in that situation, Anders Skoog’s goal in the 50th minute felt like a stab through the heart for the hosts.

The match was very emotional now. Apart from some hard hits, one reason for that was a Visby fast break soon after Skoog’s goal. While the guests were about to run on Ringhagen’s goal, the goal cage somehow was knocked over. The referees saw an unfortunate action, but no foul. When Linus Sjögren raised the score to 4-7 in the 53rd minute, the hopes of the home team seemed to fade. Hovslätt hit the goal post in one of their next attacks, but Visby was more effective in that match. Lagemyr added his third goal of the day in the 54th minute. He hit the goal post as well, but it felt like it touched Ringhagen thereafter to cross the goal line. Hovslätt felt urged to pull their goal soon thereafter. They did put pressure on Visby who fought bravely and had some nice blocks. However, they did not have opportunities to go for the empty net goal. The time was ticking down more and more. In the penultimate minute, Hovslätt gave up on going for that man advantage. Thus, the match ended with a 8-4 Visby victory.

Hovslätt – Visby – My View of the Match

Wow, that could have been some very helpful points for the Jönköping team in the SSL. They had the momentum in that match. However, Visby was more effective. Especially their power play was brutal for the hosts and finally paved the way to a Visby victory. The match was very fast and physical. In front of 423 spectators, it was a real treat for floorball lovers, at least if you are not a Hovslätts IK fan.
