Danielle Bradbery has been one of the first artists I ran into when I started following country music more intensively. However, her last album with originals, I Don’t Believe We’ve Met is dated as of December 2017. The more I was happy to hear that she will be releasing a new album in 2024. Here is my review of Danielle, released on 6th September 2024.
Danielle Bradbery – About The Artist
Danielle Simone Bradbery was born on 23rd July 1996. At the age of sixteen, the Houston-born artist won the 2013 edition of The Voice. Until today, she is the youngest artist to do so in the US-American show to do so. She signed a record deal with Big Machine just two days after the final, which also lead to her debut single The Heart of Dixie, which is until now her biggest song so far. Her self-titled debut album followed in November 2013 and made it up to the fifth spot of the US-American Country Charts. Even though she announced a sophomore album for 2015, it took her until December 2017 to publish I Don’t Believe We’ve Met. The key single of the album was Sway, a golden record in the USA and Canada. Thereafter, she rather cared about her fan base and released a cover album, In Between: The Collection in 2022.
Danielle Bradbery – Danielle – Track by Track
The seven song album lasts 21 minutes. There feels to be a release of a four track add-on named Epilogue to be released in the future. I could not validate that.
1. Wake Me Up
You clear my conscience
You’re like a caffeinated promise
You keep me going, keep me honest
You always got me feeling wanted
Danielle Bradbery’s comeback “album” opens with a piano ballad. The melody played on the key side is not too exciting, Danielle puts a very high voice on top, which is very high and sometimes feels squeaky. Somehow, though it works out and transports the necessary emotions.
2. Windows
Windows is one of three songs, which Bradbery already released before Danielle. The song is a pop track with (majorly) present rhythm. There is definitely a wider melodic range in this one on both sides, vocal and instrumental, compared to the opener. However, Windows does not fully strike to me.
3. Broken Boy
But it’s just a broken girl, loving a broken boy – the third song is going back to the piano ballad genre. However, Danielle is singing in a lower voice, which in my point of view works out much better.
4. You Could
Unhappy love is is the key theme of Danielle. You Could is another song, which is telling a story about that. Fix him, make him love me like I wish he would this time even asks for some external support. The song is again very emotional with some rhythmic elements and angry break-outs.
5. Wedding or a Funeral
She’s all dressed in white
I’m all dressed in black
Both got tears in our eyes
Hers happy, mine are sad
You cutting a cake (cake)
Cuts me like a knife
So tragic, its beautiful
Is this a wedding or a funeral
When I saw Daneille on a major stage during the 2019 CMA Fest, I was really worried about her. Her performance felt uninspired, mechanical. Meeting her later, she stated that she was very stressed at that time. Songs like Wedding or a Funeral make me worry about her life again. And make me hope that she is not telling a personal story. The track comes with nice storytelling, though.
6. Real Ones
The sixth song, Real Ones, is the track, which I feel has the most radio potential. The soulful modern pop track almost leans towards hip hop. The song has a nice flow as well. It has the potential to convince radio listeners. However, these have to be outside the country cosmos – which almost applies to the whole set of songs of Danielle.
7. That’s Why (You Love Me)
I’ve been called
Handful, extra, psycho
That’s why you love me
A little bit
Crazy, selfish, batshit
That’s why you love me
The song is another rather modern pop song with a very emotional style and a touch of soul elements. The chorus has a nice touch.

Danielle Bradbery – Danielle – My View
Danielle is Bradbery’s definite departure from country music. It is a pop album – or not? I was already quite worried when I saw the list of songs. Just seven songs? A bit more than twenty minutes? That’s what you call an EP, definitely. The last songs of this release leave a bit of a nice touch, but overall, Danielle Bradbery cannot fully convince me in 2024.
