WFC U19 Girls 2024: Slovakia – Latvia 8-3 (2-2, 1-1, 5-0)

While you can hardly expect to beat one of the “big” countries in the top groups of a World Floorball Championship, the more it is important to win the match against your key peer. Slovakia and Latvia had tough times at the first day of the Under 19 Girls WFC in Lahti. On the beginning of Day 2 of the competition, they faced each other with the winner highly likely proceeding to the Place 5 match.

Slovakia – Latvia – Match Facts

Slovakia felt more agile at the beginning of the match. However, Latvia had been very effective in this part of the match and Martina Reke gave the lead for her team after some nine minutes. Two goals by Zuzana Mrazova and Aneta Maria Petrikova felt to turn the match. However, Latvia took profit of a bench penalty against Nikol Drabekova and Annija Darta Dankfelde tied the score (16th). The second period saw some early goals, with Mrazova scoring after 16 seconds and Reke tying it less than forty seconds thereafter.

 

The match stayed close, but Latvia’s first bench penalty (Ramona Abdelfina, 46th, Lying Play) gave Slowakia the momentum. Lenka Cervena gave back the lead to her team rather at the end of the numeric advantage. Two more goals with a gap of three minutes each (Alexandra Kopcekova, Ema Varasova) finally decided the match. Latvia now pulled goalie Estere Elbrete, but even caught two more goals.
