For the last Infosys Hall of Fame Open match I featured on Tuesday 16th July 2024, I went back to Center Court. The fourth match of the day featured US-American wildcard holder Eliot Spizzirri and Australian qualifier Li Tu, who I had seen in his first round of the qualification already. Unfortunately, quite many people had left the lovely grounds in Newport already – but the match felt being promising to me.

Infosys Hall of Fame Open – Spizzirri vs. Tu – Match Report
The story of the first set is told ratrher quickly: The Australian did not get into the match in the first games at all. Tu was broken in the very first game of the match and did not do much better in the third one, where former college player Spizzirri needed three break points to have the absolute comfort zone. The US-American played very strong and convincing tennis, while his opponent felt being in trouble in any of his games at serve. The set closed as it began – with another break against. The score: 6-1 in favor of Spizzirri.
However, the longer break after the first set felt to help the Australian a lot. He played much more faithful and also more aggressive, which gave him a good start into the second set. In a long fifth game (17 minutes!), he even had his first break point, Spizzirri replied to it with an ace. After having five deuce situations, Spizzirri survived. The match was much more of a battle now, the next two games were rather close as well, but until the score of 5-5, nothing cruicial happened. Then, Tu had three break points, converting the last one and thus serving for the set. However, he could not stand the pressure, got broken by a return winner and the set went into the tie-break. This recent situation had obviously hit Tu, who already trailed 0-5 before he got closer. The burden was too high, though. The domestic player won the tie-break by 7-4 and thus advanced to second round.
