First day of the main draw – Monday, 15th July 2024, did not only feature the first matches of the men’s singles draw, it also opened the Center Court. I was very flattered about this, covering my second day at the Infosys Hall of Fame Open 2024 in Newport. Here are some pictures and notes of the first match played on the main court at the lovely grounds of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Infosys Hall of Fame Open – Mayot vs. Kovacevic – Match Notes

Both players showed very convincing performance at own serve. French Mayot, who served eight aces in the first set was the first one to face some trouble in the eighth game. His US opponent did not convert one of his two break points. Thus, the first set went straight into the tie-breaker after some 48 minutes, After this very leveled first set, the decider felt to work out surprisingly straight for the local competitor. Kovacevic lready lead 5-0 before Mayot did his first point (and only) in it. Thus, the end of this first set felt much more like an easy cruise for Kovacevic than it actually has been.

The second set had its crucial moment rather early. After two straight games, Mayot faced a 15-40 at own serve in the third one. Kovacevics converted the first break point, which was the only only one in the whole set. The games with the French at serve felt a little bit closer than the ones opened by Kovacevic. Nonetheless, it was overall a straight match. It ended with a final score of 7-6(1) 6-4 in favor of the player from New York City.
